    • Did the event in 2017

This is the best 5k race that I have attended! There was also a 10k and a Princess 1/2 Mile at this event. Held at the California State Capitol in Sacramento, this year had over 4,000 women, young and old, in attendance!I gave 5 stars for Race Management because it was definitely the most organized race I've been a part of. Their website clearly explained every detail of the event and had easy registration for the distance of my choice. The first 500 people to register for the race not only got their bib and t-shirt, but also a free Momentum Jewelry Motivate Wrap! I was unlucky enough to miss this opportunity. The bib was pretty and purple and I was able to customize it with my name. The shirt was pretty to look at but also made of a breathable material as opposed to standard cotton t-shirts I've received at most races. This is a plus for me because I will actually wear it to exercise and it won't just get buried in a pile of race shirts I never wear.I gave this race 5 stars for parking because I was able to park right across the street from the Capitol. Much to my surprise, the parking was even free! I arrived to the event at 6:15 A.M. when the race starting time was 7:30 A.M. Perhaps getting there that early helped me get my great parking spot. This was an easy and enjoyable run. It's a completely flat course and it was early in the morning so the weather was nice and cool. This was a relief from the usual NorCal heat of June. We were running in the heart of downtown Sacramento but there were tons of tall and beautiful trees among the city buildings. Plus, you just can't beat the monumental views of the glorious Capitol building! There was 1 water station along the 5k route which was great. There were lots of volunteers and bystanders on almost every corner along the 3.1 miles cheering us on! Some onlookers even had signs or costumes that made it feel even more fun and encouraging! After I crossed the finish line, I was handed a gorgeous participation medal by a local firefighter which I thought was really cool! There were volunteers handing out water bottles past the medal station. Once I caught my breath and hydrated a bit, I made my way through all of the sponsor booths. This race was created on the idea of making a great, fun festival event that you want to hang around for first and then adding a race to it. I think that makes this race stand out! I hit the Whole Foods tent for some complimentary yogurt with granola and fresh fruit for some post-race fuel. Then I got to shop at the Fleet Feet Asics tent for some running apparel! There were tons of smaller booths ranging from information on other racing events to health and wellness to healthy foods and snacks. I didn't take advantage of it but there were free health screenings available as well.My last stop was the much-anticipated Mimosa Garden complete with tables, umbrellas, and a white picket fence. I have to say, a delicious free mimosa is a pretty spectacular reward for a race hard-run! I was only disappointed that I couldn't have another! Overall, this was a really fun event that I will make sure to attend every year! It was beautiful to see women coming together to celebrate health, fitness, and female empowerment! I 100% recommend this race to all women interested!
    • Did the event in 2017

By far the most impressive turnout of runners and vendors of any short-distance race I've participated in. The swag is outstanding, although I'm loathe to tech-fit t-shirts. The course weaves through the streets of the city, and though calling it scenic is a stretch, I do love that the locals turn out in droves to cheer the participants on. It's fairly flat, but the rising summer temps may stifle A-goals.
    • Did the event in 2015

This is my 4th year running the WFF. A few things have changed since then but overall I still love this race.
Once again the Sacramento running community is in full force. LOTS of community involvement, Kaiser Permanente tent with pictures and health info, booths, massages, food, sparkling wine!! (which was new this year!). Unfortunately I didn't get to participate much in the festivities after the race this year because I had to head out right after but I could see by the set up it was just a as good, if not better than the previous year.
The shirts you get at this race are always great quality and have a nice design. This year we even got medals. Which I think is due to the fact that the half marathon they had planned was cancelled. Long story short - the races here have been having issues with the rail roads. So there you go. But that didn't stop them from a great course this year. It had many more turns than the previous 5k. Personally I think it made it more fun. And we got to finish running down L street next to the State Capitol. Which is always a fun end to a race!
Parking can be a pain in the ass but if you're there early enough you can get a spot close by. If I didn't have to leave right after I would have run there. I live about 1.5 miles from the start. Perfect for a warm up! The start time was 7:30 this year. I really think this race needs to be started sooner. It was hot! Just like last year. The reason I am giving 4 out of 5 stars is because of the start time. I'd love to see a 6:30 or 7am start for this race next year.
Once again, I'd recommend this race and I would love to see them bring back the half marathon next year.

Believe it or not, but this was my first time running this race celebrating 30 years in the Davis community! Since I wasn't able to pick up my bib prior to race day, I picked it up race morning. I was able to do so quickly and easily. I was pleased to see so many tents set up of local vendors out to celebrate this community event. I was also pleased to see a plethora of porta potties set up! Since I arrived an hour before race start time, I headed back to my warm car to wait until the scheduled 8:30am race start time. Sadly, the race ended up not starting until closer to 8:45am since the 5k got a late start. I didn't mind too much though since the sun was now up and warming up the air a bit. There were a total of 1,072 5k finishers, 573 10k finishes, and 309 half marathon finishers. Yes, it was a small race, but not the smallest race I have participated in. It was nice to see half marathon pacers for the half marathon. The pacers help to set an even pace and help runners achieve their goals. My training has not been consistent lately to say the least, so I decided to start out with the 2:15 pace group. I stayed with them for the first 8 miles and then slowly dropped back. The aid stations on course were well stocked with water, Gatorade, and even some mini Lara bars!As for the finish line, it was more like a finish party! There were a lot of community members out to support this local race, vendors, etc. I would have stuck around longer, but donuts and a shower were calling my name. All in all, not only would I run this race again, but I'd also recommend this race to others.
