I greatly enjoyed this run and found it very convenient, especially as I live only a few miles from the start and finish in Sugar Land, TX. It is a relatively small race (allegedly 500 or so half marathoners and 300 full), so of course there are pros and cons there. Communication was efficient and well-spelled out online and with emails. Packet pickup was a breeze for me at the local Sprouts grocery. Race day was early (6:30 start) and I was there early at 5:30 as requested by the race directors, so as to not clog the highway. This race is for those who want to go fast on a relatively flat course without any crowds, but also for those who need extra time on the course. Aid stations were abundant and stocked with water and Gatorade. The course is concrete, but that is just a reality for road runners here in Houston. The half marathon course is one loop with a few u-turns to add length. The full marathon does this loop twice. The finish had great cheerful volunteers handing out finisher medals immediately. I also received a finisher's tech t shirt. Food for runners was abundant and there was beer too! All in all a great race!
Excellent event and very well organized. Every thing went smoothly and on time. The course was mostly flat so if you're looking to run fast or run a PR then this is your race. A scenic route and great motivation along the course. The Woodlands has a vibrant running community which only adds to this race.
Lead officers led lead cycle led lead runners off course early in the race. 26.2 became 25.75. Boston qualifiers were not given entry if they were at pace due to the short course. I made the best of it, and enjoyed the race I had. Rolling hills - more than the Half course so be prepared. Support on course is nice - a bit less than the Half in the middle of the course. Less folks out to cheer. Bring music, or enjoy the chirpy birds in the woods. All paved road. After the race, grab finished tank, and head on to the party. Nice food out, not as much for the slower runners - management could better ration the front and mid pack to save some for everyone else. I registered for 2018, anxious to run The Woodlands Full again.
