What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

Known as "The Friendliest Race in L.A.", the Valley Crest Half Marathon is a popular trail half-marathon on historic Mulholland fire road that treats runners to beautiful spring foliage and magnificent valley and ocean views. In its 17th year, this challenging but fast race makes perfect competition for the serious runner and is also "user-friendly" enough to be a great first-timer trail run! The course is entirely on city-maintained fire roads in early June and typically has cool overcast weather. We look forward to having you run with us!

The Truckee Marathon course truly showcases the majestic and diverse beauty of Truckee and its surroundings. The marathon and half marathon start simultaneously in Historic Downtown Truckee. Quickly after the start the course heads west and circumnavigates Donner Lake. At the 11 mile mark youll face the toughest climb of the course heading up Northwoods Blvd. The final mile or so of the half is a down slope on the brand new Trout Creek Trail. A great place to view the event is at the main venue as the half finishes, the marathon continues and the relay teams tag-off.

Marathoners and relay teams continue to the eastern part of the course on a scenic section of single-track towards Grays Crossing and Old Greenwood. With majestic views of Mt. Rose and the surrounding sagebrush landscape runners continue towards Glenshire before turning onto the Legacy Trail along the Truckee River. Runners then follow this this trail back in to town where the finish celebration will be in full swing.

Come experience one of the most scenic events in California, Run Long Beach. Starting in Downtown Long Beach, runners head towards the historic Queen Mary and then through Shoreline Village. After running next to the Pacific Ocean on the flat beach path, half marathoners will continue down Ocean Boulevard while full marathoners veer right and head through Belmont Shore toward Marine Stadium.

The Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run is the worlds oldest 100-mile trail race. Starting in Squaw Valley, California near the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and ending 100.2 miles later in Auburn, California, Western States, in the decades since its inception in 1974, has come to represent one of the ultimate endurance tests in the world.

Following the historic Western States Trail, runners climb more than 18,000 feet and descend nearly 23,000 feet before they reach the finish line at Placer High School in Auburn. In the miles between Squaw Valley and Auburn, runners experience the majestic high country beauty of Emigrant Pass and the Granite Chief Wilderness, the crucible of the canyons of the California gold country, a memorable crossing of the ice-cold waters of the main stem of the Middle Fork of the American River, and, during the latter stages, the historic reddish-brown-colored trails that led gold-seeking prospectors and homesteading pilgrims alike to the welcoming arms of Auburn.

With more than 1,500 dedicated volunteers, offering the sports oldest and most prized possession a sub-30-hour finishers bronze belt buckle or a sub-24-hour finishers silver belt buckle and owning 100-mile racings richest and most compelling history, Western States remains one of the undisputed crown jewels of human endurance.
