What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

We welcome you to a whole new series; the Maverick X Series is designed to test your resolve and take you to the upper limits of your abilities. The Peak District X Series event is a must in your calendar for 2018 - it has been dubbed the Lake District of the Peaks.

You will leave the small village of Hope and head out towards Win Hill, an impressive climb taking you to 462m (1,516ft) with amazing views over the Ladybower Reservoir. The reservoir is situated in the Upper Derwent Valley at the heart of the Peaks National Park, in an area that is surrounded by magnificent countryside where water and woodland, topped by high moors meet in stunning fashion.

From there you will run the edge of the reservoir, but dont open the legs up too much as you will need plenty in reserve to tackle Kinder Scout which is a high windswept upland gritstone plateau, most of which stands at around 600 metres above sea level. The highest point is Crowden Head, which at 631 metres is also the highest point in the Peak District. This is the largest and grandest of the great upland areas of the so-called 'Dark Peak' and it forms an imposing and fascinating area. This route just has to be seen to believed.

Ultramarathon events in Dundee July 2018

The 39 or 24 mile mountain trail runs follow a classic sections of The Pennine Way, in the Cumbrian/Durham Pennines. Both routes run from Bowlees Visitor Centre in Middleton-in-Teesdale up glorious riverside trails, past Cauldrons Snout. From here they split, with the full route going via High Cup Nick to Dufton, and then over Crossfell to Alston. Both routes start at Bowlees and finish at Alston. They are linear routes with a bus ride to the start. The routes share common first and last parts with each other but are stand alone events in their own right. P39 is a key stage of the Pennine Way, and takes in the highest point of England outside of the Lake District.

The P24 route will leave Cauldrons Snout and head past Cow Green Reservoir and head for the South Tyne Trail. Whilst you will miss out on High Cup Nick and Crossfell, it is still a very worthwhile route and a good days run or walk
