What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

10k Races in Kingston upon Hull May 2019

A return of the very popular Bridport 10km & 5km will start and finish at St Mary's field by the football club on the western edge of Bridport.
The route will be open to traffic, however, there are plenty of wide pavements, quiet roads, and cycle-paths to run on also with plenty of marshals around the course, the run is a safe, scenic route around Bridport Town

Half Marathon

New for 2019 will see the longer Half Marathon distance ( 21.1km)

10km
The 10 km route will start in one of the main parks of Bridport, this is to help separate out the runners before heading into the road sections through North Allington and onto the flat of St Swithens and Pymore, after which is a very small hill (the only one) which takes us over Dodham's lane.

The run from here follows wide cycle-paths and is a flat speedy affair, which will take you through one of the fastest run sections in Bridport "Barrack street", a great place to have friends and family cheer you on, as its a glut of coffee shops, also it gives them enough time to walk back to the finish, to watch as you cross the finish line.

The final KM are flat, wide and although not fun at the time, the medal at the end will make you smile.

With water stations at 2.5 km and 6.5 km, there is nothing for you to do but run.

5km
The 5 km run will also start and finish at St Mary's, it will head out towards the football club and then will follow the quieter roads around the town.

Because we want to encourage as many people to run as possible (Including children) its a nice safe easy two 2.5 km laps, on wide pavements, or through parks (Paths and cycle ways), so super safe. Great for kids and adults that just are not quite ready for the bigger distance.

Immortal Triathlons have enjoyed great success at Stourhead in recent years. We all know not everyone is up for a swim, and maybe cycling is not your thing. In 2018 the event sold out and over 220 Immortal athletes were unleashed on the Immortal 10k route with great results, and for 2019 we are hoping that you will be up for the challenge once more!

Enjoying the same fantastic finish line experience outside Stourhead House, the route will take in many of the stunning sights and views around Stourhead Estate and adjoining forestry. We cannot pretend this is an easy route, but to earn the right to become Immortal, it has to be tough.

Around 50% of the route is on really quiet closed country lanes, with the remainder on forest tracks and trails. With a total of 770ft/235m of climbing

The race will be a mass start, under the Stone Arch of the driveway to the house, at the 10am on Saturday 11th May 2019. Running through Stourton village, then past the Lakes before taking a right turn crossing a dam before starting the run for the trees. In early May the flora and fauna is guaranteed spectacular, and the sights and smells will distract you from the shift you are putting in!

The loop through the forest takes in some beautiful clearings and pasture before returning to the Dam which supports the lake, under the Stone Arch before returning through the village and onto the driveway to receive the respect and applause from the gathered spectators and families. A fantastic medal and a technical t-shirt will ensure the race stays long in the memory.
