What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

The off-road marathon is an epic trail run that ascends a total of 1,608 metres through the heart of Glencoe and into the foothills of Ben Nevis.

The route snakes through the pass of Glencoe, surrounded by the towering remains of this ancient super volcano, before climbing 500 metres up the fearsome Devils Staircase. From the eastern edge of the Aonach Eagach Ridge you look straight onto the mighty Buachaille Etive Mor (the great herdsman) before dropping back to sea level at Kinlochleven where the Mamores Half Marathon starts. Starting from the southern shore of the world famous Loch Ness, the Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra follows a route through remote Scottish Highland Glens, passing over the summit of the UKs highest mountain, Ben Nevis, before finishing at the Skyline Scotland Event Centre in Kinlochleven.

In keeping with the ethos of the Salomon Skyline Scotland races, this route is very challenging with considerable height gain, great variability in the terrain, multiple river crossings, and an airy traverse of the one Scotlands most famous ridges, the Carn Mor Dearg Arete, leading to the summit of Ben Nevis.

It is almost certainly the UKs toughest 100km+ Ultra route!

Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra™

Fort Augustus, Highland, GB

The Salomon Glen Coe Skyline follows in the finest tradition of the most prestigious Skyrunning races, fusing mountain running and alpinism in a pure test of speed, endurance and skill on an uncompromising, world-class course.

The route features long and sustained sections of scrambling terrain, which is roughly equivalent to moderate standard rock climbing. In addition, the race traverses high and remote mountainous terrain, which is at times impossible to retreat from and may be subject to severe and rapidly changing weather.

The event is only suitable for highly experienced competitors and all entrants are vetted for experience.
