What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

Windsor Marathon & Half Marathon River Trail Run

The Abingdon Marathon was first held in 1982 and 2018 will mark the races 37th year since its inception. This will be the 36th running of the race unfortunately, the 2007 event had to be abandoned.

The marathon entry has grown over the years but has an entry limit of 1,200 again this year. We expect this number to be reached by the beginning of April, well before the closing date, so make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment.

The 2018 Abingdon Marathon will again incorporate the following championship events: Oxfordshire County Marathon Championships and Army AA Marathon Championships. In addition, the event has also hosted the Twin Towns competition where we have always extended a big welcome to our friends from overseas, especially from Argentan, France, Abingdons twin town.

The LEY HILL CHALLENGE is a Trail RUNNING EVENT held in October each year in Ley Hill, near Chesham, Buckinghamshire. The event stages 2 races, a 5km (09:30) and a 10km (10:30). Both courses take entrants through the beautiful Chilterns countryside.

The 5km course is a lovely undulating course and is suitable for people new to running and speedsters alike.
The 10km course is a challenge with a mixture of terrain and a tough hill with around 1 mile to the finish. Each year we get feedback from entrants about the 10km course being fabulous and challenging in equal measure!

Ultramarathon events in Reading October 2018

THE AUTUMN 100 (PREVIOUSLY THE WINTER 100) IS A 100 MILE CONTINUOUS TRAIL RACE BASED IN THE TWINNED VILLAGES OF GORING & STREATLEY ON THE RIVER THAMES. THE COURSE REFLECTS THE SHAPE OF A CROSS AND TAKES RUNNERS ON A SERIES OF 4 DIFFERENT 25 MILE OUT AND BACK SPURS USING SECTIONS OF BOTH THE RIDGEWAY AND THAMES PATH NATIONAL TRAILS.

Runners will depart from Goring at 10am on Saturday 13th October and make their way to Little Wittenham on the first out and back section on the Thames Path. On returning to Goring, runners will be faced with the more challenging but beautiful second spur of the course, out to Swyncombe Farm on the Ridgeway before returning to Goring a second time. Spur 3 takes runners west on the Ridgeway to Chain Hill before returning to Goring for the final leg on the Thames Path to Reading and return for their 100 mile finish.

The difficulty of this race should not be underestimated. During a dry spell the route is flat, fast and picturesque presenting ideal conditions for a trail 100. However, runners will also be faced with up to 13 hours of darkness and the possibility of extremely low temperatures, rain and very wet and windy conditions. Conditions underfoot can vary dramatially.

As with all Centurion events, runners will be fully supported by 16 well stocked aid stations , full medical support and course markings in addition to the pre-existing national trail waymarkers. Race held under full UK Athletics Permit granted through the TRA (Permit Number Pending).
