What you need to know about Swimming

Swimming races and open water swimming events generally tend to be between 1—10km in length, however, more challenging swims can be up to 80km long. Swims over 10km are classed as Marathon Swims, These events take place in lakes or in the sea, often with a great atmosphere and a festival vibe. If you’re just starting out, get some practice in a pool first, temperature and choppiness are factors to consider before diving in.

In its 5th year. The event will be held at Boscombe beach and is a real must for anyone looking for a slightly more challenging open water swim. This is a series of 3 races over the summer season. The Salty Sea Dog Swims will take place near the Urban Reef a funky and informal bar, caf, deli and restaurant, serving fresh, seasonal and local food and drink.

Both swim races at the Bournemouth Long swim will be beach starts between the start flags. The course will be marked by large inflatable marker buoys and a large course map will clearly indicate each course. The course layout is subject to change due to weather conditions. The course takes swimmers approx 400 meters from the shoreline and gives a great view of the coast.

The Swim to the Edge is part of the Solva Edge Festival weekend when the idyllic harbour village, which lies in the middle of the Pembrokeshire coast national park has a celebration of sport, music and arts. The swim itself is one of the most scenic and challenging open water swims in the UK and with two distances available we have something for everyone

Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, GB

The Thames Marathon, now in its 8th year, is a 14km long-distance challenge swim from Henley-on-Thames to Marlow. It covers a beautiful stretch of the Thames and has become one of open water swimmings most prestigious marathon swims.

The swim is split into 4 sections. Swimmers will be required to exit the water at the 3 locks (Hambledon at 4km, Hurley at 10km and Temple at 11.8km) where food and drink will be available.

Participants have the choice of waves the first wave will be for faster swimmers wanting to compete against the clock.

There are a limited number of non-wetsuit places available. To be considered for a non-wetsuit place, swimmers must apply through the online entry system, giving details of their open water experience, and if approved will receive a link that allows them to complete their registration and payment. Non-wetsuit places are expected to sell out very quickly.

Thames Marathon Swim

Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, GB

The Big Brutal Swim will take place at the stunning, glacially formed Llyn Padarn which is known for being sixth deepest lake in Wales. It's also home to a fish called the Arctic Char, a species left over from the time of the last Ice Age - although none of our swimmers have spotted one yet.

This is held at the same venue as The Brutal Extreme Triathlons and therefore great preparation for the event later in the month. This event is open to wetsuit and non-wetsuit swimmers. There will be separate categories for wetsuit and skins swimmers.

The distances available are 2.5k, 5k and 10k. T-shirts to all swimmers.

The swim will take place in the beautiful lakes of the Cotswolds. The event will be a deep-water start with all swimmers in the race starting together. There will be timed splits for each 1km of the course via a timing chip on your wrist (tagging the pontoon on each lap). There is the option for a self-fuelled feed station at each km too.

The swim will take place in the beautiful lakes of the Cotswolds. The event will be a deep-water start with all swimmers in the race starting together. There will be timed splits for each 1km of the course via a timing chip on your wrist (tagging the pontoon on each lap). There is the option for a self-fuelled feed station at each km too.

Cotswolds 5km Swim

The swims will take place in #Lake62 in the beautiful lakes of the Cotswolds. The event will be a deep-water start with all swimmers in the race starting together. There will be timed splits for each 1k of the course, with the option for a self fueled feed station at each kilometre.

Welcome to the 7th running of these fabulous lake swims taking place at the ever popular Tri2O Swim Centre on the outskirts of Reading.

The Big Dog Swim will provide a great test for the more experienced swimmer and a perfect start to the racing season. This 3.8 swim will be an ideal time trial for those looking at Ironman events through the summer and will be brilliant time in the water for those that just love and swim and swim.

The Doggy Paddle swim event offers the perfect opportunity to those looking to conquer the Olympic distance swim portion of a triathlon for the first time, to those wanting to practice that unique feeling of a mass deep water start and perhaps just trying to improve their swim times.

The Swim Festival is a mass-participation open water sea swimming event and a great chance to challenge yourself in a particular distance. If you're feeling fit and strong you could swim two or even all three distances!

The event offers a choice of a 1km, 2km, or 3km distance. The course will consist of 1km laps and will include a very short Australian exit near the water's edge ideal for spectators.

Each swim will have a separate start time. So there's
a chance to swim three times and clock up 6km.
That would deserve some well earned kudos!

Each competitor will receive a swim hat and a special commemorative medal. If you enter all 3 swims you
will receive a 20 discount on the total entry fee.
