Sprint Triathlons in Inverness September 2018

The usual Borders and Bridges Trophy will be awarded to the fastest club over the Borders and Bridges course, based on the cumulative time of the first 3 individual finishers from that club. The lower reaches of the Tweed provide an impressive back drop for this new event. Berwicks unique and historic environment, spanning both sides of the border, is a great place to explore by bike and the nature of the border crossings along the bike and run routes create a memorable platform for the event.

The Swan Leisure Centre swimming pool, Berwick-upon-Tweed, is the venue for the swim. Starting order will be dictated in waves based on submitted estimated swim times for that distance.

The bike route is a single loop, taking in 3 bridges and 2 border crossings before heading back to the Swan Centre for T2.

The single loop run takes you through Tweedmouth and along to the docks, crossing the Tweed at the Old Bridge, yielding great views of the iconic Royal Border Bridge and the famous River Tweed below. From here the run takes you on to the medieval ramparts for a circuit around the Berwick Walls then, once again crossing Berwick Old Bridge. After returning over the Old Bridge runners will then head back to the Swan Centre and the finish line. Note that the last 1km follows a different route to that used on the first 1km. Transition is sited in the car park adjacent to the pool.

The Ilkley Triathlon is a club run sprint distance event held every year since 1992 making it one of the longest running triathlon events held in the UK. This year will be the 26th edition of the race. It has a reputation for being a friendly, race, ideal for novices and first-timers with great support all the way around the course. However the course is still a challenge for more experienced athletes, indeed both Brownlees have taken part in the past. The testament to its popularity is that it has won the UK "Race of the Year" on multiple occasions including 2015 and was nominated in the top three in 2016 & is shortlisted again in 2017. Ilkley Triathlon remains one of the best value for money events in the racing calendar and combined with it being set in a stunning Yorkshire countryside location it is a simply must do the event.

Don't fancy racing as an individual? Then why not get together with some friends and enter a team; one person swims, one person bikes and the third one finishes with the run. It can be a fun way to start your life as a triathlete. With a multi-lap course, full catering facilities and great views its also perfect for your supporters to enjoy the day whilst cheering you on. In recent years it has sold out within hours, so if you would like to find out what all the fuss is about and take part then don't delay!
