Route information
The Bay to Breakers 12k course starts in the city before making its way west to the Great Highway, where you’ll finish by Ocean Beach. Test your legs on Hayes Street Hill, take in the iconic city sights and head into Golden Gate Park – all the while being cheered on by the incredible people of San Francisco.
History
The celebrated Bay to Breakers race was first held in 1912, known then as the Cross City Race.
With each year that's passed, Bay to Breakers has grown into a glorious celebration of the human spirit. Now one of the largest foot races in the world, this event attracts not just world-class runners but thousands of costumed runners and walkers.
With live music, thousands of spectators, and a challenging course, this event is truly a showcase of all San Francisco has to offer.
Breakers Bonus - Make it 15k
Those who fancy trying something a bit longer have another option, runners can choose to do the Breakers Bonus 3k which adds to the end of the original route, for a total of a 15k run.
Centipede Team Run
If you weren't sure how this event could get even more fun, try doing a 12k run linked to your teammates. Teams of 13-15 will travel the whole route linked together by a bungee cord or another safety mechanism.

Start & Finish Lines
The Start line will be at Main Street & Howard Street, San Francisco, CA 94105. The Finish line will be at Ocean Beach Parking Lot, Great Highway, San Francisco, CA 94122.
Virtual Runners
If you can't make the race in person there is the option to enter the event as a virtual runner. You can run the 12k wherever you are, and your swag will be mailed to you after the event.
Finish Line Festival
Cross the finish line in style and celebrate with your finishers medal and be greeted with food, drink, live music, and much more. With the historic finish line as a backdrop finish your weekend in style.
Age Requirements
Children 3 and above must register for the race, while children 2 and under are free to enter.

How do I get my race pack for Zappos Bay to Breakers?
Your race pack will be available to collect at the Expo before the event, and full details will be shared nearer the event date. As an alternative, post registration Mail My Packet (MMP) is now available, where for a fee you can opt to have your pack sent to your address.
Can I bring a bag on the Zappos Bay to Breakers course?
Due to heightened security procedures, bags, backpacks and containers are banned from the Zappos Running Bay to Breakers race course, unless they are clear and are no larger than 8.5”x11”x4”.
Are strollers allowed on the Zappos Bay to Breakers course?
Strollers are not permitted on the race course.
Are bikes allowed on the Zappos Bay to Breakers course?
Only authorized course marshals are allowed to use bikes on the race course.
Is there security at the Zappos Bay to Breakers?
There will be police officers and security guards at the start and finish as well as throughout the course.
Are pets allowed at Zappos Bay to Breakers?
Pets are not allowed on the race course for the safety of race participants, spectators and the animals.
Is alcohol allowed on the course at the Zappos Bay to Breakers?
No, no alcohol or illicit substances is permitted on the course, and anyone with these items will be ejected from the event.
Are wheelchairs allowed at the Zappos Bay to Breakers?
Authorized and registered competitive wheelchair participants are encouraged to participate. Please get in contact for more information if you are interested.
Will there be toilets at the Zappos Bay to Breakers?
There will be plenty of portable toilets at the event.
