The Ascension Seton Austin Marathon and Half Marathon will fill Austin’s streets with more than 20,000 runners. Participants are treated to experience Austin’s finest! They race along open roads that pass iconic landmarks like UT Tower, The I Love You Mural, and Austin Power Plant; enjoy miles of Austin unique neighborhoods such as SOCO district and Hyde Park; and are greeted by cheering crowds as they close in on the finish line in front of the Texas State Capitol on historic Congress Ave.

The Ascension Seton Austin Marathon & Half Marathon routes

The Start Line is located in downtown Austin. Start time for both the Austin Marathon and the Austin Half Marathon is at 7:00am CST. Restrooms will be will be readily available through the area and at the start line.

  • The Ascension Seton Austin Marathon and Half Marathon will start at 2nd & Congress and end at 9th & Congress.
  • The Austin Marathon 5K will start and finish at 2nd & Congress.

Austin Marathon = 7 hours (16 minute pace)

Austin Half Marathon = 4 hours (18 minute pace)

5K = 1 hour (19 minute pace)

Participants not maintaining the pace to finish within this time will be directed to get onto the sidewalk by race officials and the finish line will not remain open beyond these finishing times.

We will have pace groups for 2:45, 3:00, 3:05, 3:10, 3:15, 3:20, 3:25, 3:30, 3:35, 3:40, 3:45, 3:50, 3:55, 4:00, 4:05, 4:20, 4:35, 4:50. Pace groups 2:45 and 3:00 will run on gun time. All other pace groups will run based on chip time.

The Pace Group Leaders will be running “Even Splits”. This means that every mile will be run at approximately the same pace. Exceptions to this will be in the beginning of the race due to the bottleneck at the start, and on the miles which the course dictates. Think of them as a moving finish line with your goal time pinned to the back of their shirts.

Digital clocks will be located every 5k on both the Marathon and Half Marathon courses. These clocks will be based on gun time. Mile markers will be located every mile with raised event signage on both the Marathon and Half Marathon courses.

Medical teams will be located at each aid station, marked by red “Medical Station” signage, at the end of the aid zone. They will also be located at the start an finish lines.

Complimentary Gear Check is available race morning stating at 5:30 am. Only the clear plastic bags provided will be accepted into the tent. Please don’t leave anything valuable in your bag as we cannot take responsibility for any lost items. Help us be green by only taking a clear plastic bag if you are sure going check gear and cannot leave your items in your hotel, car, or with a spectator.

Join the Austin Marathon volunteer team! Your volunteer time benefits the Austin Marathon runners, walkers, guests and staff by providing help in a variety of areas, including start & finish line, packet pick-up, information and water distribution. And just as importantly, volunteers provide the energy and enthusiasm to help encourage our runners to the finish line!

Our volunteer shifts will take place at the Expo (Friday 02/14 and Saturday 02/15) and on Race Day (Sunday 02/16/2020). Volunteers will receive an official volunteer t-shirt, refreshments during the shift and a huge thank you from the race team!

By helping to make the Austin Marathon a successful community event, our full team of volunteers, staff and supporters also help create economic opportunities for the City of Austin and Central Texas by way of the number of runners and guests visiting Austin for the race.


Pets make great training partners, but please leave them at home race morning. No pets allowed on course

Strollers are only allowed for the 5K distance.

Headphones are welcome, just make sure that you can hear the course marshals & instructions from course volunteers and staff.

With over 15 Austin bands to keep you motivated, from local Austin rock bands, to drummers, cheer groups and dance teams, we will help keep you moving and keep you entertained! Spectators along the course throughout each neighborhood will also support you in your efforts to meet your goal of finishing strong!


Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, & 5K Packet Pick Up - The first step to starting the Ascension Seton Austin Marathon is picking up your race packet. The Marathon Health & Fitness Expo will have more than 100 vendors selling all sorts of runners’ goodies. While you’re there, get important race info and tips from speakers, shop the vendors and more.

The Austin Marathon Health & Fitness Expo will be held Friday and Saturday at Palmer Event Center at 900 Barton Spring Rd.

Each participant must pick up their own packet.

  • Friday, February 14 1:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Saturday, February 15 10:00am – 5:00pm
  • There will be no packet pickup on race day.

The Pick Up Process

  • Have your bib number and your ID ready.
  • Go to the kiosk with the number range of your bib number.
  • Next, line up in the t-shirt line for the size that is listed on your bib. You will present your bib to the volunteer and they will give you your shirt.
  • Marathon and Half Marathon participants will then pick up their 2020 commemorative bags.
  • Exit into the expo and check out what our awesome vendors have to offer!


  • Packet Pick Up is for all events – Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K.
  • All participants must pick up their own packet at the expo. Packets include gear check bag, bib and timing device, and safety pins.
  • Please have your ID ready to pick up your packet.
  • There is no race day packet pick-up and packets cannot be mailed. Parents of children under 18 who are participating may pick up their packets for them
  • The clear plastic bag you receive at packet pick-up must be used for your gear check bag. We will not accept any other bags.
