Route information
The Badwater 135 is one of the most challenging courses in the world. The course covers 135 miles from Death Valley to Mount Whitney. This is one of the most extreme races in the world, there will be plenty of climbing too.
You will start the race in Death Valley at 280' below seas level and finishes at 8,300' of elevation at the Mount Whitney summit. The 135-mile course will cover 3 mountain ranges which will total 14,600' of ascent, added on top of extreme temperatures and 135 miles, be prepared to embrace the suffer.

Accommodation
There are reserved blocks of rooms in Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells, and Lone Pine during the event. Information for special pricing is provided to only confirmed entrants. Once you have your entry confirmed make sure to make your reservation as soon as possible.
Finish Location
The finish will be located at Whitney Portal, located near the end of Whitney Portal Roads, above Lone Pine, CA on Mt. Whitney.
By Car to Death Valley Reset your car odometer to zero in Mojave and take Hwy 14 north at the intersection at the north end of town where the 58 Business Route meets the 14 at Motel 6.
  • Mile 20.3: veer right onto Randsburg Road.
  • Mile 32.5: stay straight (not right).
  • Mile 40.8: go left at the t-intersection junction with Hwy 395.
  • Mile 44.0: turn right on Searles Station towards Trona (easy to miss).
  • Mile 50.3: at this t-intersection, turn left to Trona.
  • Mile 58.7: another t-intersection, turn right on Hwy 178 towards Trona.
  • Mile 71.5: Get gas & snacks at the Shell in the town of Trona, a town which must have been featured in The X-Files, don't you think? There is also a Valero Gas located at Mile 72.4.
  • Mile 104.3: turn left towards Death Valley via Hwy 190.
-Mile 118.2, turn right at the t-intersection on Hwy 190 towards Death Valley.
  • Mile 129.4: You will now ascend the infamous Towne Pass known worldwide from Furnace Creek 508. After Towne Pass, pass through Stovepipe Wells
Mile 146.4: Gas, minimart, hotel, restaurant Mile 171: Reach Furnace Creek Ranch at mile 171

Race Headquarters
The headquarters will be set up during the race at Furnace Creek Ranch and then at Dow Villa in Lone Pine for the duration of the race.
Age Requirements
All applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age when submitting an application.

What are the qualifying standard for the Badwater 135?
To qualify for the Badwater 135 you must have completed the Badwater 135 in the past four years, and have completed at least one 50-mile or longer ultra running event. You have finished 3 running races of 100 miles or longer (one in the last 13 months). You have completed at least one 50-mile or longer in the last 13 months. There is also a list of preferred qualifying races available on the Badwater website.
