Half Marathon

Our scenic course, comfortable for runners of all levels, takes you down historic Telegraph Avenue, through Cal Berkeley’s iconic Sather Gate and around the beautiful Cal campus.

From beautiful North Berkeley and the vibrant Fourth Street district you’ll run along the waterfront and enjoy the view of the bay on your way to the finish line, with the community and your fellow runners cheering you on!

A celebration is waiting for you in Civic Center Park along with your finisher medal!

Back by popular demand, our 10k Race is the perfect option for runners who seek a rewarding, beautiful, and fun race distance.

Experience historic Telegraph Avenue, run through Cal Berkeley’s iconic Sather Gate and around the beautiful Cal campus in the fall, tour vibrant Shattuck Avenue, and experience the vibe and community of Berkeley when you’re running down neighborhood streets.

You’ll be cheered on as you enjoy a dramatic finish at Civic Center Park where you’ll earn your finisher medal.

This fast course offers a tour of historic Telegraph Avenue, passes through Cal Berkeley’s iconic Sather Gate, around the beautiful Cal campus, and finishes at Crescent Lawn on UC Berkeley’s campus, just a few short blocks from the Main Finish Line Festival.

This distance is perfect for new runners, families (strollers and children are welcome), and anyone who loves to experience the community spirit of running together this fall.

Family 1k

Our Family 1k is a great way to get the whole family across the finish line!

Kick off this fun community weekend with your friends and family by walking or running together on Saturday before the expo opens and before the main races on Sunday.

Each 1k participant will receive a commemorative bib, a pin, and post-run snacks and drinks.

This is an all-ages run, so get everyone in your family out and running this fall to experience the vibe of beautiful Berkeley, while also celebrating and supporting Berkeley public education.

A portion of registration proceeds will be donated to the Berkeley Public Schools Fund, which helps bring education alive for local students.

Runners will be assigned to a lettered start corral based on their Estimated Finish Time (EFT). The corral assignment will be printed on your bib number. Large flags will designate the corral entrances at the start line – please enter the corral at the flag that corresponds to your corral assignment.

All runners need to be in their corral at the start of the race – the start time for the half marathon is 07:30am. As the race starts, corral monitors will bring your corral group forward to the Start Line to start the race.

Corral time and locations are subject to change.

Race Finish: Crescent Lawn on UC Berkeley Campus. 5K finishers join the Half Marathon and 10K finishers at the main Finish Line Festival in Civic Center Park, Berkeley to celebrate.

Course Certification: The 5K course is USATF certified

Parking:

The Center Street Parking Garage located at 2023 Center Street Downtown Berkeley will open at 6am on race day. Normal parking rates apply.

Directions and rates can be found here.

All other city lots will open at the regular times.

Two parking lots near the Berkeley High School campus will be open on race morning, starting at 06:00 am. They are located at Bancroft St. and Milvia St. and at Durant Ave. and Milvia St., close to the Main Start Line, and can only be accessed on race morning from Shattuck Ave. The suggested contribution is a minimum of $20 (cash only). Proceeds are tax-deductible and will benefit the BHS.

Travel:

BART doesn’t run early enough to get runners to the Biofreeze Berkeley Half Marathon Main Start Line on time, but don’t fret. The Biofreeze Berkeley Half Marathon offers early morning bus service from five Bay Area BART stations, so runners can forget the hassle of driving and focus on the race.

Buses transport runners from the following BART stations to the Start Line at the following times on Race Morning:

Fremont at 5:25 am
Civic Center at 5:40 am (Buses pick up on Grove at Market St.).
Walnut Creek at 5:45 am
El Cerrito Plaza at 6:10 am
MacArthur at 6:10 am
Free parking is available at each location. BART will be running normally after the race, so you may buy a BART ticket after the race, hop on, and head home. The BART Bus ticket does not include return BART ticket fare.

You must purchase your spot in advance. On race morning, you will not need a ticket to board the BART bus because your name will be on the list for bus loading.

Are there cut-off times?
All 5K participants are required to finish the race within 1 hour, a 19:21 minute/mile pace. The Finish Line will close promptly at 9:45 am. Runners who come in after this time will not be considered official finishers. All 10K participants are required to finish the race within 2 hour, a 19:19 minute/mile pace. Runners who come in after this time will not be considered official finishers. All Half Marathon participants are required to finish the race within 4 hours, an 18:20 minute/mile pace. The Finish Line will close promptly at 12:00 pm. Runners who come in after this time will not be considered official finishers.
FAQ
Are strollers allowed to enter?
Strollers are allowed on the 5K course and no other distance. Runners with strollers will be placed in the last wave. Registrants intending to run with a stroller should check the box marked “Stroller Division” during registration. Children in strollers are not required to be registered, but will not receive a shirt or medal.

What do I need to bring to packet pick-up?
Please bring a copy of your bib confirmation email and photographic ID to claim your packet.
