Did the event in 2019
My wife and I ran this together and weren't in it for the time. Everything was well organized. The police had the streets blocked off and the people within the neighborhoods were friendly and encouraging. Plenty of water / goo stations. Definitely recommend this race for folks looking to have a vacation with a run in the middle of it :)Did the event in 2019
Course was a little congested in a couple areas due to some street parking. Not their fault, though, otherwise, a great race!!Did the event in 2019
This was my first BDR experience, and their first race in Savannah. I must say that it was an excellent first effort on their part.* They bill themselves as a racer-oriented organization ("created by runners for runners"), and that feels right. The price was perhaps a little bit higher than some other HMs I've done, but not exorbitant, and I feel like I got good value for the money.* I thought the course was good - Savannah has a LOT of cobblestone (downtown) which is not necessarily great to run on, but also has a good amount of rubberized asphalt, which I thought was good. * The organization for the race was excellent! EVERY turn was well-marked, and there was a lot of both volunteer presence and LEO presence. This was the first HM I've run for which they'd provided pacing groups, and that was a real plus (it's been about 15 months since my last one, and I was a bit concerned). There were plenty of water/aid stations, and several opportunities for gel supplements throughout the course. The offered inclusion for others to track you in the race via app was good. There was a good amount of contact pre-race via email that was helpful.* I was surprised that there wasn't an "official" FB check-in page setup, given how savvy the organizers were about social media. However, the post-race area was quite good (free beer FTW!), although it might be even better to have a larger number (if possible) of massage stations, and a wider selection of carb-replacements (bagels, etc.) - there were bananas, but little other fruit choice, and cookies/donuts, but.... The only deduction I gave on the atmosphere is not something that the organizers can necessarily control: It would have been even more fun if there'd been more community support along the course. I'm not from Savannah, so I don't know how much effort was put into getting folks out, but having run the Peachtree Road Race (Atlanta) and the Snickers Half (Albany) which both feature huge numbers of supporters along the course, I think that's part of what makes a race really fun.I'd definitely do this race again!!Did the event in 2019
BDR Savannah AWESOME! Well, my 1st race in Savannah as first time. I did run 5K. Easy and excellent ran in beautiful historic Savannah. All staffs, and supporters, volunteers very friendly as amazing! Of course, police officers did good job. Definitely coming back again next year.
