Bike the Coast routes

100 Mile Route
The 100-mile course for Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast starts at the Oceanside Pier and goes north to Breakwater Way before beginning a southbound trip to Encinitas. The 100-mile course is two loops of the 50-mile course. For 100 mile riders at the end of the first loop there will be an aid station just south of the Oceanside Pier at the Strand and Seagaze.

50 Mile Route
The 50-mile course for Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast starts at the Oceanside Pier and goes north to Breakwater Way before beginning a southbound trip to Encinitas. The course is well-supported, and perfect for your first, or most enjoyable coastal ride. The route tours the beaches on Highway 101 through Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar. This is an out-and-back course with a turn-around and aid station on Sorrento Valley Road south of Del Mar. (approximately 24.2 miles from the Pier). There is also SAG support for all riders at the start/finish near the Oceanside Pier. The Taste the Coast Festival at the finish line will include a selection of local cuisine, music, a beer garden and a sports expo.

25 Mile Route
The 25-mile course for Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast starts at the Oceanside Pier and goes north to Breakwater Way before beginning a southbound trip to Encinitas. The route tours the beaches on Highway 101 through Oceanside, Carlsbad and Encinitas. This is an out-and-back course with a turn-around and aid station in Encinitas at Moonlight Beach (approximately 13.3 miles from the Pier). There is also SAG support for all riders at the start/finish near the Oceanside Pier. The Taste the Coast Festival at the finish line will include a selection of local cuisine, music, a beer garden and a sports expo.

15 Mile Route
The 15-mile course for Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast starts at the Oceanside Pier and goes out to the San Luis Rey River Bike Path on a course that has very little car traffic – the majority of the course is a bike path with no car traffic. This is an out-and-back course with an aid station at Foussat Road (approximately 3.8 miles from the Pier) and an aid station and turn-around at Mance Buchanan, right before College Boulevard (approximately 7.8 miles from the Pier).

7 Mile Route
The 7-mile course for Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast starts at the Oceanside Pier and goes out to the San Luis Rey River Bike Path on a course that has very little car traffic (the majority of the course is a bike path with no car traffic). This is an out-and-back course with an aid station and turn-around point at Foussat Road (approximately 3.8 miles from the Pier).

5:30am – registration opens at Betty's Lot, Downtown Oceanside

NOTE: START TIMES
6:50am – 100-mile wave starts
7:45am – 50 mile rider wave starts. All 50 mile riders should be out by 8:30am
8:45am – 25 mile rider wave starts. All 25 mile riders should be out by 9:00am
9:00am – 15 & 7 mile rider wave starts. All 15 & 7 mile riders should be out by 9:15am

9:00 REGISTRATION AND START LINE CLOSES

10:00am – expo opens
10:00am – Beer Garden opens at Taste The Coast Expo under The Pier

The Beer Garden and Expo are open to the public.

5:00 pm – final 100-mile Rider arrives, and Taste The Coast Expo closes

FAQs
  • Follow traffic laws: please do not be ticketed as Police and Sheriffs patrol this route.
  • This is a bike ride, not a race, and is held on OPEN ROADS with motor vehicles.
  • All riders must follow the rules of the road, as defined in the California Vehicle Code
  • Stop at ALL stop signs and lights, and ride within the bike lanes unless passing
  • Riders agree to wear approved helmets while riding the bike in this event.
  • All riders MUST have a bike number and wristband on the course for safety and access to SAG.
  • We strongly suggest you bring at least TWO water bottles FULL of water/fluid as well as a cell phone. In consideration of your safety, do not wear earpieces in both ears during the ride.
  • Participants must follow all instructions of law enforcement and/or fire officials
  • Public safety vehicles have the right-of-way at all times!
  • Ride Marshalls will be on bicycles on the course. They will be wearing vests
  • They are cyclists like you, and are present to encourage safe and legal riding and to increase your safety
  • Please follow their advice, if offered
  • Use the toilets provided at the SAG Stops only, please!
  • All riders must ride on the right-hand side of the road, not ride across the centerline, and should ride single file
  • If a rider is unable to continue, he/she should move to a safe place off the road and signal a race vehicle for assistance, or call the dispatcher number provided on the PDF, or on handouts on event day.

    Hi there. If spots are still available, unregistered riders will be able to register outside the Bandshell near the Junior Seau Recreation Center on Friday Nov. 1 between 12:00pm-7:00pm, or at Betty’s Lot on Saturday Nov. 2 from 5:30am-9:00am
