Race through the Lassen National Forest in this mixed distance trail running event. With 5 races across two days, this event is perfect for trail runners of all levels and runners will enjoy the scenic forest surroundings and the Susan River Canyon. Come for the first taste of trail running.

Bizz Johnson Trail Races routes

The majority of races will traverse through the picturesque Lassen National Forest and the Susan River Canyon. Runners will enjoy orange cliffs and have the opportunity to cross the river via quaint wooden railroad bridges.


Kicks off from the Railroad Depot in Susanville and is an out and back course, with the final 3 miles joining up to the full marathon route. The race will finish back at Hobo Camp.

Half Marathon

Joins the marathon route for the final quarter, finishing back at Hobo Camp.


Similar to the 50km course, this route has a remote start out near Westwood, but finishes back at Hobo Camp.


The 50km event has a remote start near Westwood, at the Mason Station Trailhead. This is a point-to-point course which ends up back at Hobo.

Express Half Marathon (Sunday)

The express half marathon takes place on the Sunday and its route is the 2nd half of the full marathon course. All entrants will be bussed to a remote location for the start.

8:00am: 50km starts

9:00am: Half Marathon, marathon, 10km starts


9:00am: Express Half Marathon starts

Please make sure you arrive at least 45 minutes before the start to get parked, registered and sufficiently warmed up before the start of your race.


Volunteers are a huge part of bringing Coastal Trail Run's epic races to life. Roles vary from race-to-race but often include manning aid stations, helping at registration, or distributing those cherished finisher's medals.

In return, you will receive a 'standard' entry into a race if you help for 5 hours, $25 discount (2 hours work), or $15 discount (1 hour work).

Is there a time limit for the Bizz Johnson Trail races?

What are the aid stations at the Bizz Johnson Trail races stocked with?
Stations will have an abundance of fresh fruit, salty snacks, assorted candy, water and Clif Shot Electrolyte sports drinks.
Should I still bring my own water?
Absolutely, runners are advised to bring at least 20 oz. water between aid stations. Additionally, in an effort to help the environment Coastal Trail Runs are going cupless and ask that runners bring their own water containers. There will be Hydrapak SpeedCup's on sale for $5 at check-in.
