We don’t care if you are fast or slow, big or small, young or old. We aren’t the beautiful people you might see in a shoe commercial on TV. We never will be. We’re just everyday people who have discovered the happiness that running can bring. If you have the guts to get off the couch, get outside and run or walk at least 5K (3.1 miles), we are ready for you.

Route description

The Brazen New Year's Eve races will be held at Quarry Lakes in Fremont. Courses take runners on the trails of Quarry Lakes and (for 10K and half marathon) onto the Alameda Creek Trail.

The courses are almost entirely flat with just a few small sections that rise up.

All courses will be marked with flour, ribbons and signs to help get you through the race. Participants can also receive a copy of their appropriate course map (accompanied by directions) on race day.

Logistics and schedule

Raceday Registration:

It is possible that the race is 100% sold out before race day. Updates will be posted on the race website. If you do not see the race noted as sold out here or on the race home page, you will be okay to sign up on race morning, starting at 6:45 a.m. Race day registration is an additional $5 from the final online registration price.

Bib Pick-Up:

Runners have three options for picking up their bibs and shirts:

1. Mail-out service (available for a fee when registering).
2. Pick-up in person at Road Runner Sports in Berkeley on Thursday, 12/26 (3 pm - 7 pm) and on Friday, 12/27 (11 am - 3 pm). Runners who pick their bib up in person will receive discounts off of their purchases.
3. Pick up on race morning (not recommended).

In order to avoid race morning stress and avoid having to arrive even earlier, we strongly recommend choosing options 1 or 2. If you are unable to take advantage of those first two options, race morning pick-up will still be available, but you should aim to arrive 70-90 minutes ahead of your race start to account for lines.

For half marathon participants who wish to hike the course and take more than 4.5 hours, we will offer a "Hiker Division" start at 7:30 am. Those starting at 7:30 should carry water as the first and second aid stations might not be 100% up and running, depending on the hiker's speed. Hiker starts will not be eligible to win the race or for age group awards, but will be listed as official finishers in the Hiker Division and will still receive finisher medals.

Time Limits:

The half marathon will start at 8:30 am and the course will have a time limit of 4.5 hours.

Water Stations:

Water stations will be stocked with water, sports drink, gels, pretzels, candy, etc. Water stations on course:

5K: 1
10K: 3
1/2 Marathon: 4

Water station locations are shown on maps above. Those needing water more frequently are encouraged to carry a water bottle or hydration pack.

Toilets will be available at the race start/finish area.
