California International Marathon routes

Marathon and Marathon Relay:

The scenic 26-mile, 385-yard course runs from Folsom Dam to the State Capitol in Sacramento. The relay will begin promptly at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2019, near the Folsom Dam in Folsom. The relay is held at the same time and on the same course as the individuals’ marathon.

CIM will take you through rural countryside, then through the towns of Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks and Carmichael and finally, under a canopy of trees in full fall colors, into the city of Sacramento for the State Capitol finish. Even though the course has remained the same, the race has grown into a true international event.

CIM has a gently rolling, point-to-point, net downhill course with well maintained streets and few turns. The CIM start is at a 366 ft. elevation and its finish at a 26 ft. elevation.

  • Did the Marathon in 2018

Its a tremendous race from start to finish. Getting all the runners bussed to the start of a point-to-point marathon with a field of close to 10,000 is a logistical nightmare Im sure but it seemed to go off without a hitch. The crowds were great, the course was perfect, the weather was phenomenal (although that really cant be planned for every year!) and the post-race area was well organized as well. I live all the way across the country but Id love to be able to come back and do this one again someday.
  • Did the Marathon in 2018

Stay composed, for every uphill there's a bigger downhill. Make sure you got your fuel intake down.
  • Did the Marathon in 2018

THe race and atmosphere around the race was great. The course was set up great and the volunteers were excellent. The only thing that was an issue was our bus driver getting lost on the way to the start, leaving us with only 14 minutes to get to our start corral, check our bags, and use the bathroom. We were in line for our bus before 5 am and didnt board a bus till 5:30 am.
  • Did the Marathon in 2018

Register early as this is a popular race and will likely sell out. Early registration saves money.

  • Did the Marathon in 2018

I would have to say the course. CIM is known for having a lightning fast course, and it can be, but not every runner is suited for it. A rhythm runner, like myself, struggles with the up and down. I was having the race of my life up until mile 20 then things went bad really quick. My quads cramped worse than Ive ever experienced. Overall, its a fast course for most, but not everyone.
