Eroica California

The Piedras Blancas Route is a delightful taste test of the Eroica experience that is sure to lure the rider back for more.

After a quick tour of Cambria, riders head north along California’s most beautiful coastline. Just past San Simeon, Hearst Castle stands out in the mountains to the east. Also, watch for zebra, Tule elk and elephant seals on the way to the historic Piedras Blancas lighthouse. After an exquisite rest stop on the lighthouse grounds, enjoy a nice tailwind back to Cambria.

Santa Lucia Route gives riders) an opportunity to experience the beauty of fatigue along the California coastline and the thrill of the conquest in the mountains of the Santa Lucia Range.

The Santa Lucia route combines 56 miles of pavement and approximately 16 miles of gravel totaling 72-miles of old-school effort. It is an opportunity to experience the beauty of fatigue that includes the California coastline, the vineyards of Templeton, the challenging Cypress Mountain ascent, all capped with an absolutely stunning 15-mile descent of thirst quenching oceanic views.

Previously known as the Coastal Route, La Via della Scalatore has all of the highlights that Eroica California is known for.

Riders will have a nice warm up as they head south to the seaside village of Cayucos. After a brief stop, the strade bianche of Santa Rita Creek road awaits. Following the 10km climb and technical descent, riders will pass through the town of Templeton, in the heart of the Central Coast’s wine country, before encountering the infamous Kiler Canyon. This steep, narrow section of gravel road has forced even the most seasoned riders to succumb to walking. A well-deserved rest at Halter Ranch Vineyards can’t arrive soon enough. Don’t get too comfortable as the final obstacle of Cypress Mountain road is just around the corner.

The Heroic Route adds to the La Via della Scalatore by taking in several sections of strada bianche to the east of Templeton and through the city of Paso Robles.

Enjoy stops at Olea Farms, renowned for their olive oil and French fries, and Cass Winery, home of excellent wines and beautiful vineyards before rejoining the Scalatore route along Kiler Canyon in Paso Robles.
