Discover one of the staples of the Maryland spring running calendar. From a 1/4 mile race to a half marathon, this event has something for everyone. There are even a few hills thrown in for that extra challenge. Come for a marquee race with a community feel.

Frederick Running Festival routes

Half Marathon:

The course will remain open for 3 hours and 16 minutes, closing on a continuous pace of 14:57 minutes per mile. If you are unable to maintain this pace, please e-mail us immediately at [email protected] to work out a solution for you. You may be asked to move off the course and continue as a pedestrian as the course must reopens to traffic. We will have 7 aid stations on the course, each stocked with water and Gatorade. Select locations will also offer fruit, salty snacks, and various flavored GU. Each aid station will have at least one port-a-pot and a SELF HELP Kit with basic runner amenities.

The following items are not permitted on the course: pets, skateboards, bicycles, roller blades, baby joggers, and any other type of vehicle (other than official race vehicles). These regulations are for your safety and the safety of the other participants in the race. Corrigan Sports reserves the right to disqualify and remove anyone from the course who has any of the above items. Headphones are strongly discouraged, and will make you ineligible for overall awards.

Relay:

The Team Relay is open to participants at least 14 years of age on race day. The course will remain open for 3 hours and 16 minutes, closing on a continuous pace of 14:57 minutes per mile. If you are unable to maintain this pace, you will be asked to move off of the course and continue as a pedestrian after the course reopens to traffic.

  • Leg 1 (7.6 mi) - Start at the fairgrounds and end at Hood College
  • Leg 2 (5.5 mi) - Start at Hood College and end at the fairgrounds

5km:

  • Start on the Fairground Track, at the corner of the grandstand
  • Run clockwise around the track
  • Exit the fairgrounds at Gate 3, turning left onto Monroe Avenue
  • Continue on Hughes Ford Road
  • Turn left on Monacacy Blvd
  • Tunaround on Monacacy Blvd just before Church St
  • Continue back down Monacacy Blvd
  • Turn right on Hughes Ford Road
  • Continue on Monroe Avenue
  • Enter the Fairgrounds at Gate 3
  • Proceed clockwise around the track, finishing on the track in front of the grandstands

Kids Fun Run:

The Kids Fun Run will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, on the Frederick Fairgrounds track. Prior to the race, all participants must pick up their race number. This can be done at the EXPO on race day in Building 13 between 10am-4:30pm. Participants should stage with their age group in the Kids Zone located in the infield near the inflatable games. Groups will begin to walk to their respective start-line 15 minutes prior to the start of the race. There will be two separate distances in the Kids Fun Run (see below).

Nut Job Challenge

Over the years, we have learned that some of our participants are certifiably nuts! Many of you can’t get enough running and are always looking for the next challenge. Well, now we have just the thing for you! We are proud to announce the 6th Annual Frederick Nut Job Challenge. Runners who complete both the half marathon on Sunday and The Twilight 5K on Saturday will receive a special Nut Job race bib valid for both events AND earn an exclusive Nut Job medal in addition to the half marathon and 5K medals. Medals will be distributed following the completion of the half marathon. Your special bib will help our volunteers and eveyone else identify you as a Nut Job (and let them know to run the other way… very quickly!)

Event Details

What’s Included

All finishers will receive a commemorative race medal. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female runners, and to the top male and female masters’ runners based on gun time. There is no duplication of prizes.

There were also be a race shirt, two free beers, and free photos for all participants!

Raceday Logistics

Runners will be able to pick up their premium at the expo on Saturday, May 2 or post-race on Sunday, May 3. Stay tuned for more info.

Volunteers

Over 500 volunteers are needed to make the Frederick Running Festival successful. Volunteer opportunities are now available for the 2018 Frederick Running Festival, May 5-6 at the Health and Fitness Expo, 5K and Kids Fun Run races on Saturday night, as well as on Sunday race day.

Can I upgrade to longer distance race?

Yes, if you would like to upgrade to a longer distance you may do so by paying the price difference – select “transfer registration” to begin the process of upgrading. The deadline to upgrade is Friday, April 26th at 11:59pm.

Can I downgrade to a shorter distance race?

Yes, if you would like to downgrade to a shorter distance you may also do so by managing registration – select “transfer registration” to begin the process of downgrading. Please Note: there is not a refund of fees for downgrading. The deadline to defer is Friday, April 26th at 11:59pm.

Can I wear headphones during the race?

The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, the Frederick Running Festival encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of the event

Runners competing for awards or prize money may not use headphones of any kind, and will not be eligible for any award or prize money if such a device is worn. USA Track & Field Rule 144.3, states that the visible possession or use by athletes of video, audio, or communications devices in the competition area (which includes iPods, MP3 and other musical devices) is considered assistance and is therefore are prohibited.

If you chose to use headphones, please be respectful of the other participants and the race officials by keeping your volume to a minimum. If wearing headphones results in your being unable to hear verbal instructions or commands from race officials, you will be asked to relinquish the device.

Safety Message for the Frederick Running Festival

  • Leave any unnecessary bags/clothing in vehicles
  • Do not leave bags/gear unattended
  • Respect all areas blocked for no parking or pedestrian access
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times
  • “If You See Something, Say Something.” Report suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police officer, event official or by calling 9-1-1

All finishers will receive a commemorative race medals at then end of his/her leg. Trophy awards will be given to each of the top male, female, and co-ed teams.

The timing chip is adhered to the back of the bib. Do not alter the bib/timing strip in any way! Without a bib, your time will not be recorded. Do not cross the finish line more than once. If you drop out of the race, please notify a course official. You will be transported back to the stadium. DO NOT CROSS THE FINISH LINE. There is no need to return your bib/timing chip after the race.

Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) was established in 1991 with the goal of creating, managing and implementing sports and event marketing opportunities for the corporate community. In that time, CSE has grown into one of the strongest marketing organizations in the area. The addition of the Oakland (Ca.) Running Festival and the partnership with the IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association)not only enhanced CSE’s already impressive resume but has expanded CSE nationwide.
