Route description

Half Marathon:

This 13.1 mile route will meander through San Francisco, taking in all of the city's iconic sites. For local residents or new visitors to the city, this race offers a truly unique way to see the city and runners will pass right across the Golden Gate Bridge.

The half marathon has a strict cut-off time of 3 hours, requiring runners to maintain a pace of 14:00 minutes per mile.

The race will feature a mass start, with the start line remaining open for 5 minutes following the starters horn.

5K

The 5K kicks-off along the waterfront of San Francisco Bay. Participants will line up at Muni Pier in Aquatic Park and behold stunning views over toward both the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

The final stage of the course will take athletes onto Beach St and Ghirardelli Square where the crowd will be cheering you on.

Please note, 5K runners will not pass over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Please ensure you arrive at least 45 minutes before the race start time.

Spectators

This is always a well attended event and spectators are more than encouraged to line the streets, particularly around Ghirardelli Square.

If you are driving to the race, please note that there will be road closures that can affect your drive.

The Golden Gate Half Marathon on November 3rd will cause mild delays into entrances and exits of the marina area. We will have San Francisco Police Dept. and volunteers helping to make this as seamless and fast as possible to get you in and out. We have set up two traffic valves, one at Yacht Road/Baker St. and the other at Webster Rd and Marina Blvd.

Are there aid stations on the course?
Aid stations will be provided at Mile 1.5 for the 5K and Miles 1.5, 4, 6, 9, and 11.5 for the Half Marathon. These will consist of water and Nuun at all aid stations and Honey Stinger gels at Mile 4 and 9 of the half marathon.

Can someone else pick up my race pack?
A proxy can be sent to pick up your race packet on your behalf. You will need to have signed the digital waiver when registering for the event and your proxy must have a copy of your drivers license (picture will suffice) and your QR code.
