Golden Gate (Summer) routes
Another beautiful run organized by Coastal Trail Runs. This event has everything you can want from mountains and solid hill climbs to coastal views over the Pacific.
The route kicks off with a fairly hefty hill so watch out and don't burn out on it. The 1.3m section climbs up over 800 feet, so take it slow and keep an eye on your heart rate.
Terrain: The race is split fairly evenly between single tracks and dirt roads, making it quite even under foot and slightly more forgiving than asphalt.
Elevation Gain: This run is not for the faint hearted, even the 5 miler has over 1,000 feet of elevation gain. The half marathon has 2,550 feet, the 30K has a little over 4,000, whilst the longer runs have 5,100 and 6,580 feet respectively.

Did the Half Marathon in 2019
Great route, but check the elevation profile - some sneaky hills at the end there. Beautiful course, even if it was pretty fogged out this year. The course was unfortunately re-routed due to some engineering work but well organised to make the changes and sort out the re-routing in good time. Good selection of snacks and drinks along the way and after the finish line.Did the 5 Miles in 2019
This is a great race through the trails in Marin Headlands. We got an Uber there from the city, but there’s no signal at Rodeo beach so best to rent a car or hope to get a lift back from other runners. The course is very scenic, the coastline is beautiful (although it was very foggy at the time, but I heard the 2018 race was beautiful 😂). If you want to race, or at least run up all the hills you should start at the front, as lots of people were walking up the steep sections and the trail is very narrow so can get pretty congested, particularly on the switchbacks at the very beginning. I bought some Salomon Speedcross trail shoes on the advice of the team at Let’s Do this, and thank God I did, some parts are very steep with loose gravel and you’ll be able to go a lot faster in shoes with good grip. The race was really well organised, everything happened on time and there was so much food at the end. Loads of snacks, Clif bars, fizzy drinks etc and a great vibe welcoming all the runners over the line. Would definitely recommend this race, the medals are cool and the t-shirts are good quality, just fingers crossed for more sunshine next year!
