Route information
The Hammer Road Rally commemorates Edward O. Lund, a professor at Fresno State University, cycling enthusiast, and artist who sadly lost his life in a cycling accident. There are four route options for this epic adventure detailed below but please note only the Hard & Hammer routes are timed:
Easyish: This route sticks to smooth tarmac surfaces and covers the distance from Rock Haven down to Dinkey Creek and back again. A short 27.5 mile course with 2,885 feet of elevation gain. It's the perfect challenge for newbies looking to get into cycling events for the first time. Note: There is the option to cut this shorter and cycle only 20 miles if racers would like.
Medium: Following a similar route for the first portion of the course, cyclist make their way around the bottom of Shaver lake and through Dinkey Creek, before circumnavigating their way back to Rock Haven. This looped course involves 34 miles and approximately 3,300 feet of elevation gain. A perfect challenge for intermediate riders or beginners looking for their first challenge. Note: Includes several miles of mixed terrain, chunky road and gravel descending.
Hard: This 53 mile circuit heads down past Dinkey Creek, up route 168 and toward the base of Tamarack Mountain before continuing north around Huntington Lake and back down to the finish line. A path that covers almost 6,000 feet of elevation gain and certainly not for the faint hearted or first timers. Note: Includes several miles of mixed terrain, chunky road and gravel descending.
Hammer: The classic route that attracts so many riders each year, this takes a similar path to the Hard course but continues further north and takes in the Kaiser Wilderness area and covers a total of 85 miles. With just over 9,000 feet of elevation gain riders should make sure they are well trained and prepared to tackle this challenge before signing up. Note: This route includes approximately 30 miles of proper gravel pathways, so please prepare accordingly.

FAQs
Are time trial bars or aerobars allowed at the Hammer Road Rally?
No, because of the increased reaction time these bring they pose significant danger to yourself and other riders on the course and are not permitted.
ChevronLeft
Are there time cut-offs at the Hammer Road Rally?
Yes, there is one major cut off point at the "Tamarack" aid station. For the Medium and Hard routes this should not pose a problem, but for the Hammer it happens at mile 61.5 and riders will need to give themselves at least an hour from the summit of Kaiser Pass.
ChevronLeft
Are there prizes for winning participants at the Hammer Road Rally?
Yes, there will be prizes for the Hard and Hammer routes for various age categories and for the top three performers in each (Male and Female).
