First time running Heartland Half Marathon in 2019. People were nice that volunteered time but overall I was underwhelmed and very disappointed with the main thing, the race. This would have been a great experience if they hadn't stopped the run!! Granted the rainy conditions were very challenging and tested everyone's resolve BUT to be able to finish a race in these conditions would have been something I would have talked about for the rest if my life!!! In my opinion the organizers wussed out on calling this race off!! Now this will be the legacy of Heartland Marathon whenever I talk about this race. I don't know who got into whose ear to stop this run but it was a bad decision in my opinion. I don't want to hear somebody say "oh there was possible lightning or people were getting injured", fiddlestix people get injured all the time. It's risky running a marathon in the heat too. Come on stop the wussification of all things in our day, just drives me nuts!OK I'm done ranting. And I did finish the lost portion of my run when I got home. … read more
