Challenge yourself along the scenic Bay Area Ridge Trail in this mixed distance event. Great for trail running novices and seasoned pros alike, there is a 5 mile, half marathon, 30km, marathon, and 50km route to choose from. Sign up now for the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.

Horseshoe Lake Trail Run routes

All courses will take place in the boundaries of the Skyline Ridge, Long Ridge, and Russian Ridge Open Space Preserves. The route itself largely tracks along the stunning Bay Area Ridge Trail which beholds immense views out towards the Pacific Ocean and Santa Cruz Mountains.

Course Surface:

5 mile - (Elevation 960', 66% Single Track, 34% Dirt Road)
Half - (Elevation 1,800', 57% Single Track, 43% Dirt Road)
30km - (Elevation 2,760', 58% Single Track, 42% Dirt Road)
Marathon - (Elevation 3,600', 57% Single Track, 43% Dirt Road)
50km - (Elevation 4,560, 59% Single Track, 41% Dirt Road)

Raceday Logistics

Schedule:

7:00am - 7:45am:
Bib number & Shirt pick-up

8:00am: 50km/Marathon/30km/Half Marathon start

8:15am: 5 mile start

Number and shirt pick-up will take place at the Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. Please arrive at least 45 minutes before the event to allow plenty of time to complete this process.

Volunteers

Volunteers are a huge part of bringing Coastal Trail Runs epic races to life. Roles vary from race-to-race but often include manning aid stations, helping at registration, or distributing those cherished finisher's medals.

In return, you will receive a 'standard' entry into a race if you help for 5 hours, $25 discount (2 hours), or $15 (1 hour).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cut-off time for the Horseshoe Lake races?
Yes, there will be strict 9-hour limit for all distances.
What are the aid stations at Horseshoe Lake stocked with?
Stations will have an abundance of fresh fruit, salty snacks, assorted candy, water and Clif Shot Electrolyte sports drinks.
Should I still bring my own water?
Absolutely, runners are advised to bring at least 20 oz. water between aid stations. Additionally, in an effort to help the environment Coastal Trail Runs are going cupless and ask that runners bring their own water containers. There will be Hydrapak SpeedCup's on sale for $5 at check-in.

Our events are located in amazingly beautiful parks and recreation areas in California. We are known for our well-marked courses, accurately measured distances, immediate race results, quality shirt designs, and low-key, friendly atmosphere.
