Event summary

An iconic North American triathlon for decades, Lake Placid offers the ultimate IRONMAN family vacation. Lake Placid has the amenities of a large city and the convenience of a small town, offering high-end restaurants, shopping and world-class accommodations. It boasts history, approachable charm and an abundance of on-course personality. Located in the beautiful Adirondack mountains, it's a gorgeous and family-friendly event every athlete should put on their bucket list. Having hosted two Olympic Games (1932 and 1980), this charming town knows how to deliver a world-class athletic event. It's also the home of one of the most challenging IRONMAN courses with its famous Adirondack climbs. A this event, athletes will be treated to a course that's identical to the full-distance race, but each discipline will be one single loop of the course. Athletes will begin with a one-loop swim in clear Mirror Lake, with the famous sight line at the bottom of the lake to guide them. Transitioning in the Olympic Speed Skating Oval to the bike, the rolling mountain views provide a scenic backdrop to the one-loop, 56-mile ride. Back at the Oval, athletes will begin their 13.1-mile run through town and around the lake.

Swim

The one-loop, clockwise swim takes place in Mirror Lake, a calm, pristine lake right in the heart of Lake Placid. It’s an excellent spectator course. The water temperature is typically in the high 60s to low 70s. The swim is an age group rolling start keeping all swim buoys to your right.

Bike

The demanding one-loop bike course takes cyclists through the surrounding hills of the Adirondacks, culminating with the 11-mile climb up "the notch" from Wilmington back to the transition area located at the famed speed skating oval.

Run

The one-loop course will challenge athletes with a tour through the city center. Runners head past the famed Olympic ski jumps, down to the turnaround on scenic River Road and then back up to the turnaround on the shores of Mirror Lake.
