I would strongly recommend running the Jim Tracy 5K. It is a super fun, family-friendly event where people bring their dogs and play games before and after the actual race. I had a great time participating and it's for a great cause which makes it even better! Plus it's almost completely organized by a high school committee which is extremely impressive.… read more

Route description
Route description

Starting at Stow Lake Drive by Pioneer East Meadow, runners will charge through Golden Gate Park passed the California Academy of Sciences around the Conservatory of Flowers before racing back to the finish line.

This 5K course follows a flat, out-and-back route through Golden Gate Park. The total elevation gain is 32 meters offering a chance for runners to set their next PB in Jim Tracy's honor.

Jim Tracy was an exceptional track coach at San Francisco University High School. Sadly in 2014 Jim lost the battle with ALS, but his legacy still lives on and he continues to inspire athletes to this day.

I highly recommend participating in the Jim Tracy 5k!! When I ran it, I met amazing people while getting exercise and supporting a great cause. The work that the ALS Association is doing is very impressive and it is an important organization due to the fact that ALS is such an expensive disease to fight. The course is nice and great for beginner 5k runners. I always love running races in the beautiful Golden Gate Park, can't wait to come back this year!

This was my first 5K ever, and it couldn’t have gone better! The course was perfect and the volunteers were so organized. It was also so impressive that the event was organized by a committee of high school students, and I liked that the event raised money for an important cause, in the legacy of legendary UHS Track & XC coach Jim Tracy.
