Race from the top of a hill down to the sea and raise money for the Make-a-Wish foundation. With a half marathon, a flat 5k and a 1-mile kids run, there’s something for everyone. Come along for the views of San Diego bay or just to pick up some finisher’s swag.

How to enter the Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon & 5K

Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon & 5K routes

HALF MARATHON (13.1 MILES):

This is a point-to-point FAST Course. The first 3 miles of the course is downhill followed by 10 miles of long straight-aways on Friars Road, Old Sea World Drive and Ingraham Street.

5K (3.1 MILES):

Start and Finish at Ski Beach and run North on Ingraham St. to Crown Point, along the beach path towards Sail Bay and return to Vacation Isle. The course is very scenic and is the perfect beginners run.

KIDS RUN (1-mile)

Come walk, jog, run or dance ONE-MILE in the park to raise money for Make-A-Wish® San Diego. Kids 14 and under and invited to take part for the cause. All kids will receive a Kaiser Permanente Thrive Kids Mile T-shirt and medal. Parents/guardians may accompany their kids along the course at no charge.

Kids Mile participants receive a Kaiser Permanente Thrive Kids Mile T-Shirt and Medal, as well as partaking in the Thrive Finish Festival.

FAQs

What about Bag Check ?
Gear check will be available for Half Marathon Participants. The gear check tent opens at Toby Wells YMCA at 5:30am on race morning. Please safety pin the Gear Check Number (provided on your bib) to your gear. Gear will be shuttled to Half Marathon Finish line at Ski Beach on Vacation Isle for runners to claim upon half marathon completion. **All gear must be picked up from the finish line. Please don’t leave anything valuable in your bag as we cannot take responsibility for any lost items.

What about Water Stations?
There will be 7 water stations and restroom locations at the following mile markers along the course: Miles 2, 4, 5.5, 7.5, 9, 10, 11.5. Additionally, water and restrooms will be at the start and finish lines of both the Half Marathon and 5K.

What about Pets?
We know that pets love to run around San Diego, but will not allow them on the course for the safety and comfort of all race participants. Thank you for your cooperation.

What about Strollers?
Strollers are not allowed on the half marathon course. If pushing a stroller in the 5K, please position yourself in the wave furthest back to ensure safety of all runners and children in strollers.

What is the course time limit?
The course will have a 3 hour, 15 minute time limit for the half marathon course and a 90 minute time limit for the 5k.

What is the age limit for Thrive Half Marathon?
12 years old. Individuals ages 7-11 are encouraged to run the 5K or Kids Mile.
