Route information
America's premier Gran Fondo has moved to Windsor, with the aim to showcase even more of what Sonoma County has to offer, highlighting new routes, challenging terrain, rugged landscapes, and the sweeping vistas of the region’s vineyards and coastal mountain ranges.
Windsor is just 8 minutes north of Santa Rosa on Highway 101, but full of what makes Sonoma County a destination: incredible wineries, top craft breweries, luxurious accommodations, exceptional dining, and access to the continent’s most renowned cycling roads.
The 2021 Gran route will feature Sonoma County’s highest pass over Geysers Road, adjacent to a once-proposed national park and current geothermal hotspot. The route features spectacular, sweeping views of Sonoma County from the rugged backdrop of the Mayacamas mountain range along with deep-walled canyons, emerald hillsides, and climbs every bit as challenging as those found in previous iterations of the Gran Fondo.
With a wide variety of options, the Levi's GranFondo can accommodate riders of all ability; from the complete beginner to the experienced professional. There are five major race categories with the option to add-on as you ride:
Family: A classic beginner option with limited elevation gain and that attracts loads of children or first-timers every year.
Piccolo: A short 30-mile route where riders can stop to refuel at the full-service rest stop. Add-on options include: "Piccolo +"
Medio: Here riders start getting into the tougher challenges, this route is a great one if you consider yourself an intermediate rider, and are keen for a test.
Gran: The Gran is the classic, the OG, the one that started this whole thing off 11 years ago. The course includes 102 miles of stunning scenery, beautiful coastlines and over 9,000 feet of elevation gain.
Growler: Following a similar route to the Gran, but extending slightly further. This has everything you like about cycling and so much more. The 117 mile route is not to be scoffed at and certainly not for the 'faint-legged'. The 10,000+ feet of elevation gain makes this cycle a real test of your quad's strength and endurance but the views and the people make it all worthwhile.
