Route information
The race starts and finishes at the Old State Capitol where Lincoln gave his famous House Divided speech. Just across the plaza from the Capitol, within the first quarter mile of the race, is the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices. This is the only building still standing where Lincoln practiced law during in his 25-year career. Not even a mile into the race, runners go back in time for two blocks, passing by the only home Abraham Lincoln ever owned. During mile nine, runners enter Oak Ridge cemetery and are able to view Lincoln's final resting place. Mile 10 takes runners through the local city park named after the 16th president. During the final mile of the race, runners will pass by historic Union Train station directly adjacent to the Abraham Lincoln Museum and Library, which is just one block from the finish line.

FAQs
Are the shirts gender specific?
Yes, you can designate unisex or women's cut when registering. For 2019, the shirts will be a 1/4-zip tech fabric pullover. If you are female and request a unisex size, please verify you did not receive a women's size before leaving the expo.
ChevronLeft
Can I get an XXL shirt?
Only if you signed up for one.
ChevronLeft
Is there a minimum age limit to participate?
Runners must be at least 12 years old on race day and must register with a parent or guardian's permission and waiver. They must be able to maintain the minimum pace and finishing guidelines listed above. Sorry, no exceptions.I can't make the race now.
ChevronLeft
Can I get a refund?
No, each registrant is required to acknowledge before submitting their registration that we do not offer refunds. Packets which are not picked up by the time the race starts will have the shirts forfeited to racers who registered after the shirt deadline. They cannot be picked up later or mailed out.I'm injured.
ChevronLeft
Can I defer my registration until the following year?
We understand sometimes things happen after registering early for a race. However, we do need to place some limitations on deferrals. Email a doctor's note to srrcweb@gmail.com, and we will defer to the following year. This deferral is for the injured person only. Friends who registered to run the race with you would not be eligible for the deferral. If there are other emergencies, we may address on a case-by-case basis when documentation is submitted. We cannot defer registration due to weather/travel conditions.I registered after the shirt deadline.
ChevronLeft
Can I still get a shirt?
Following the awards ceremony, remaining shirts will be available for trade first, and then for those with late registration. You must show your bib. In-person registration is not eligible for a shirt, so please register online!
ChevronLeft
Can I register at the Expo?
We cannot guarantee there will in-person registration. To make sure you get registered, it's best to do it online at least one week before race day. This race has sold out before. Can I register with a check/
ChevronLeft
not online?
Please email srrcweb@gmail.com for a paper registration form.PACKET PICKUP AND EXPO
ChevronLeft
When is packet pick up?
You can pick up your packet, bib and shirt from 4pm – 8pm on the Friday before the race or from 6:30am – 7:15am race day in the ballroom at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel, 701 E. Adams.
ChevronLeft
Is there a race Expo?
The Expo is from 4pm – 8pm on the Friday before the race at the President Lincoln Hotel. The Springfield Running Center will have apparel and other running items for sale and other vendors and sponsors will be on hand with giveaways and information.
ChevronLeft
Can I pick up my packet on race day?
Race day pickup is from 6:30am – 7:15am, but we encourage runners to make an effort to attend the Expo on Friday.
ChevronLeft
Can I have someone pick up my packet for me?
If you plan to have someone else pick up your packet, provide them with your printed race confirmation. They will need to print their name on the confirmation form and turn it in to pick up for someone else. They will also need to show their driver’s license or other ID so we can verify the pick up person's name.

ChevronLeft
Where do I park?
There is ample Expo and race day parking at the parking ramps next to the hotels along 7th Street and at metered spots downtown (meters are free after 5pm Friday and all day Saturday).RACE DAY!
ChevronLeft
Is there a time limit?
Yes. You must finish by 11am and participants should average a pace of at least 16 min/mile. A medical van and box truck will be following the last set of participants and those who fall behind the 16 min pace will need to move to the sidewalks and obey all rules that apply to pedestrians.
ChevronLeft
Can I walk the course?
Yes, but you will need to move at a 16 min pace, or you are asked to move to the sidewalks as the course reopens to traffic if you cannot maintain that pace. You might consider carrying your own water or having someone support you on the course in case water stops later in the race have been cleared.
ChevronLeft
Are strollers permitted?
No, our insurance does not allow strollers.
ChevronLeft
Are dogs permitted?
Sorry, no dogs allowed due to insurance requirements.
ChevronLeft
Can I wear headphones?
We get this question every year and the best answer we can provide is that the race waiver you agree to on the registration site requires you to acknowledge that you cannot wear headphones. Keep in mind this is an open course and the roads will have vehicular traffic. While we will have volunteer course marshals and law enforcement helping with traffic control, they can’t keep you safe if you’re not paying attention to your surroundings. Please use common sense and be safe.
ChevronLeft
Is there a gear check?
No. Because of ample parking near the start/finish and the close proximity of hotels, it’s very easy to leave items locked in a car or in your room.
ChevronLeft
What kind of timing system is being used?
The race is chipped time. The chip is attached to your bib number. Can our friends/
ChevronLeft
family can sign up for runner tracking?
Not at this time. Live results are posted online during the race, and runners will get a finish time text if they sign up for it during registration.
ChevronLeft
When does the race start?
7:30am at 6th and Washington. The race will start after the National Anthem and a musket volley by Civil War re-enactors.
ChevronLeft
Are there race corrals at the starting line?
No, this is a self-seeding start. Please find the appropriate pacer group near the starting line (look for their signs) and place yourself between the pacers based on your estimated finish time.
ChevronLeft
Where are the water stops?
Will they have sports drinks and/
ChevronLeft
or gels?
We will be serving Gatorade at water stops #2, #4, #5 and #6 and will have Gu available at the water stop #4 near mile 7. See map for details.'
ChevronLeft

ChevronLeft
Is there First Aid on the course?
Yes. There will be medical personnel at each water stop. There will be a First Aid tent at the water stop near mile 7. We also have medical personnel on bikes. They will assist with minor scrapes and have bottled water to hand out. For serious medical conditions, 911 should be called. We will also have two ambulances on standby along the course.POST RACE!
ChevronLeft
Does everyone get a finisher's medal?
Yes, all finishers will get a medal at the finish line. Where is the giant penny (medal)
ChevronLeft
?
The medal design is all new in 2019. For those wanting a penny, we usually incorporate pennies into our medals! The giant penny will be back in the future, but just not every year.
ChevronLeft
Is there a post-race party?
At the finish line on the lawn of the Old State Capitol there will be food, beverages and free locally brewed beer (while supplies last) for finishers, and music. Those 21 and older wanting to have a post-race beer will need an "Over 21" wristband, which will be available at the expo or race day by showing ID. No band, no beer, no exceptions! Also look for our "finisher" filter on Snapchat around the finish line! Following the lawn party, Obed and Isaac’s, one block west of the Lincoln Home site, 500 S. 6th St, will host runners in their awesome beer garden (enclosed for inclement weather) for the post-post-race party.
ChevronLeft
