Spartan Race - Michigan - Super and Sprint Weekend routes

Sprint Distance

3+ miles and 20+ obstacles. The Sprint is Spartan's shortest distance race, but it’s still a favorite for both new and returning racers. If you're just starting your Spartan journey, it's the perfect distance. In the 3-5 mile course, there will be over 20 obstacles to contest with, so there's plenty of variety.

Super Distance

10k and 25+ obstacles. There’s nothing mediocre about this middle distance race. The Spartan Super offers the ideal blend between distance and speed. Offering racers a true athletic test. If you consider yourself a more seasoned athlete determined to push beyond excuses, you just might have the mettle for a Spartan Super. Serving up 24-29 Spartan Obstacles and 8-10 miles of rugged terrain, the Spartan Super spares no one. Developed as the second race in the Spartan Trifecta, the Super is where you prove to yourself you’ve got everything it takes to face the Beast.

Kit List

What to wear:

Although there is no dress code in Spartan races, wear what you think will be most comfortable during a race where you will be required to run, crawl, climb, roll under barbed wire and jump through fire.

Some guidelines are:

  • Avoid cotton if possible
  • Trail running shoes and lightweight apparel that will drain water and mud quickly
  • Bring a water pack and race fuel
  • It is not recommended to wear new shoes on the day
  • Nothing inappropriate please, this is a family event.

What to bring:

  • Pre-race: Your photo ID, signed waiver form, and registration Barcode (on your phone or printed off)
  • After the race: Cash, a towel and a fresh set of clothes.
  • Recommended: headlamp and Camelback
  • Things not to bring: outside food or drink (you are allowed to bring fuel for the race), your pets, a negative attitude.

What to collect on the day:

You will receive your Registration Packets, Bib Numbers, Finisher shirts, medals etc. on site at the event. These will not be mailed out before the event.

Spectators

Spectators are welcome to get front row seats in the festival area to support their friends and family. You'll stay (mostly) out of the mud splatter zone! Entry to the festival costs $20 in advance or $25 on the day, and the pass will give you access to all the stalls and entertainment of the festival village, as well as a merchandise discount card.

Volunteers

Volunteers are more than welcome to get involved.

Morning or Afternoon shift timings are:

  • 0600-1400 or 1200-2000

Morning or Afternoon volunteers will receive:

  • Free parking
  • Free bag drop

Full day volunteers receive:

  • Free duffel bag
  • Free volunteer patch
  • Free beanie
  • Free patch
  • Free hoodie
  • Free entry for any Open heat at a future Sprint, Super, or Beast event
FAQs

What Spartan Heat is right for me?

  • Elite Category: this is a real test against the best Spartan racers trying to climb the table of the Spartan Race Point Series. There is money and potential sponsorship at stake, so it gets competitive. There is a code of good sportsmanship though, and all elite athletes honor the strict race rules and guidelines. On-course referees will monitor the elite heats, and rule-breaking athletes risk being disqualified.
  • Age Group Category: This category gives you the chance to try the challenge and get an idea of your ranking amongst other people your age. There is a points series for these runners as well, including podiums, prizes, and rankings.
  • Open Category: Anybody can get involved in the Open Category. From first-time Spartan Racers, to weekend regulars and teams, everyone is welcome. The course will push your limits, taking you out of your comfort zone, but you are under no time pressure to get ranking points or win prizes. Enjoy the experience at your own pace!

Can I take part as a team?

Yes, a lot of teams take part in Spartan races in the Open heats. There are discounts and offers available for teams, so get a group of friends together for the challenge! Your friendship might be tested in some of the difficult stages, but it will be stronger than ever afterwards once you've been through it all together.

Why not sign up with a team from work and show off in front of your employees or your boss? The mud, hills, and obstacles will be a great scene change from the office desk. There is a special corporate package, giving an amazing opportunity to boost team morale.

What are the age limits for the kids races?

Kids from ages 4-13 are allowed to take part. Kids are separated according to age groups, but we can stick with friends or siblings if you want to compete together. Parents and guardians aren’t obliged to accompany their children around the course but you can if your child wants support…that's if you can keep up with them!

Can I skip an obstacle? Is there a penalty?

NO. Skipping obstacles is not part of the Spartans' ethos. Obstacles are there to be overcome!

Spartan races strongly discourage skipping obstacles without at least giving them a try, as it is unfair to others that do attempt them.

However, if there is an obstacle that you simply cannot overcome despite your effort and you NEED to miss it out, the forfeit is completing a set of burpees before you are allowed to move on. That can add up to a lot of burpees if you have to miss every obstacle, so come with a positive mindset that you can overcome any obstacle on the course.

Can I buy Spartan memorabilia?

If you want all the correct kit and to be fully branded in Spartan merchandise, or you want a souvenir of your achievement, there is a whole range of clothing and equipment available at the Spartan Shop.

  • When you register you will have the option of adding a venue t-shirt to your package with a discount.
  • Spartan Tab: you can purchase a special plaque for the back of your medal that proudly displays your name, finish time and a custom message. This will be mailed to you after the race.

Will there be photos?

5-7 days after the event, the event page will display professional photos from the event completely free of charge! You will be emailed when your personal photos are ready.
