Starting at Spooner's Cove Beach, the Montana de Oro Trail Run hosts four different distances; the 12k, Half Marathon, 35k, and the 50k. The course takes place on three main loops: the Oats Peak Loop, the Hazard Peak Loop, and the Valencia Peak Loop. The course offers a mix of different terrains, including rocky cliffs, coastal plains, sandy beaches, and streams.
Each loop has different color markings to help guide you; the Oats Peak Loop has orange markings, the Hazard Peak Loop has pink markings, and the Valencia Peak Loop has blue markings.
Each route will follow a different series of loops.
The 50k follows the Oats Peak Loop, then the Hazard Peak Loop, and finally the Valencia Peak Loop.
The 30k follows the Oat Peak Loop and then the Hazard Peak Loop.
The Half Marathon follows the Hazard Peak Loop.
The 12k follows the Valencia Peak Loop.
The 50k follows the Oats Peak Loop, then the Hazard Peak Loop, and finally the Valencia Peak Loop.

Take exit 277 off the CA-1. Follow S Bay Blvd south for around 3 mile3s before turning right onto Los Osos Valley Rd. Then follow it onto Pecho Valley Rd for around 5 miles to reach the event.

All races have a cut-off time of 4:00 pm, meaning each has a different time limit.
The 50k & 30k have 8.5 hours, the Half Marathon has 7 and 3/4 hours, and the 12k has 7 and 1/4 hours.
Participants in the 50k have 6 hours and 20 mins to complete the first two loops, otherwise, they will be placed in the 36k results.
