Mt. Sneffels Marathon/Half routes
Marathon- Starts at 6:30am
THE COURSE: The marathon course is the same as last year. We highly recommend that you study the map prior to the race. In general, the race starts at the Ridgway Athletic Park in Ridgway and marathoners run south toward Ouray, turnaround in Ouray’s Hot Springs Park and return to Ridgway using the exact same course to the finish line at Ridgway Athletic Park. Please note that there is an out and back spur on CR 3 (via CR 3A) in the first 3 miles of the race and the same out and back spur at approx. Mile 23. You must run down CR 3 for approximately one mile where there is a volunteer at the turnaround to record bib numbers to ensure all marathoners get to the turnaround two times during the race. No dogs, bicycles or strollers are allowed on the course. We will have Mt. Sneffels race officials on mountain bikes leading the front runners of both races. No timing after 1:00 pm.
Half-Marathon- Starts at 7:30am
THE COURSE: The start of the half-marathon race will be on Ouray’s Main Street, immediately adjacent to the Visitor’s Center. Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic for approximately 20 mins, starting 10 mins. before the race. The runner’s first mile will take them up to the south end of Main Street (funnel to the left-hand side of road) and turn around at 3rd Ave. Proceed north on Main Street back down to the Hot Springs park where they will run a counter-clockwise ¾ lap around the asphalt track and then exit the park. Run down 2nd Street south all the way to 3rd Avenue and at that T in the road, turn right and follow road up onto Oak Street. Once the runners get on Oak Street/CR 17 in Ouray, you remain on the same road (turns into CR23) for approximately 7.5 miles until you come to a “T” intersection. You will take a left (note that marathon runners will turn right at the “T” onto CR3A) and run straight west, on to CR23 and heading up Heartbreak Hill and continue on CR23 all the way to the finish in Ridgway. Please check the course map for the half-marathon before starting. No dogs, bicycles or strollers are allowed on the course. We will have Mt. Sneffels race officials on mountain bikes leading the front runners of both races. No Timing after 1:00 pm.
MILE MARKERS: Mile markers on the course for the marathon are in red. Half-marathon runners and their mile markers are in a lime green shade.
