Event summary

The Annual Mulberry Island Half Marathon and 5k Run takes place on Fort Eustis, an active Army installation and half of Joint Base Langley-Eustis. The Half Marathon starts on Lee Blvd, runs along the James River, past the historic Matthew Jones House, along the side of The Pines Golf Course, and ends in front of Anderson Field House. You'll be motivated throughout the entire course by volunteers, Active Duty military members, and will get to see what a real Army installation looks like.

Did the Half Marathon in 2019
This was a fairly small event as far as half marathon races go. The big draw seemed to be "on an active duty military installation". However, other than literally being on Ft. Eustis, there wasn't too much military component to it. Yes, there were Soldier volunteers (voluntolds??) at water stations, but there were no military displays or anything like that. I felt there maybe could have been some more involvement with the actual military units. As far as I remember, we didn't do the national anthem beforehand, which I felt was a little strange.
