About
Pete McArdle, a native of Ireland, became an American citizen in 1962 and won the 10,000-meter gold medal and the marathon bronze at the 1963 Pan American Games, and then made the 1964 Olympic team in the marathon. He raced all over New York City, and he died in 1985 of a heart attack at a cross country practice in Van Cortlandt Park. This race will test your endurance over 9.3 miles of rugged terrain.

Route information
Start on "The Flats," a wide field bordering Broadway, and head south. Turn left/east to pass the Van Cortlandt Mansion along the southern edge of The Flats, then take another left to head north toward the woods at the Cow Path entrance. Follow the trail as you continue north.
Continue on the trail as it runs parallel to the Henry Hudson Parkway, and make the right turn toward the Back Hills as you reach the bridge that crosses over the Parkway.
Complete the Back Hills loop, then turn right after crossing back over the bridge to head toward The Flats. Exit the woods and proceed to complete two more full loops around The Flats and Back Hills.
After your third Back Hills loop, bear right as you exit the woods. From there, you'll have about three-quarters of a mile to go, and the finish is along Broadway just beyond the Tortoise and Hare statue.
What's included
Awards will be available to the top-three men and women overall, as well as in age and gender groups. A list of all award winners will be posted in the results for each race. Awards will be available after the race and distributed on-site.
