Ocean State Marathon & Rhode Race routes

The course is a stunning mix of beautiful farms, coastal homes, old rock walls and tree-lined, back roads.  The race runs past ocean views, river walks, kayak stands and fishing holes.   Race day starts at famous Narragansett Town Beach, winding through beautiful US 1A before descending into gorgeous Bonnet Shores.  The race rejoins US 1A, following working farms and picturesque waterways before heading back to the finish at the Town Beach.  The race is truly quintessential Rhode Island.

The Ocean State Rhode Race is the final stop in the Tufts Health Plan Rhode Master Series – 3-5 of the most scenic half marathons in Rhode Island.

Course Limits:

The Marathon course will be secured for six hours and the Tufts Health Plan Half Marathon course will be secured for three and a half hours. Walkers are welcome for both races but after the time limits the course will be open to traffic and aid stations will be closed.  We offer an early start option for those needing longer than 6 hours.

Can I pick up a friends registration packet?

Every runner needs to show a license when picking up their race packet. When picking up a packet for a friend you need a signed note from the runner and a photocopy of their license.

What do I do with my belongings at the start?

There will be a gear bag check at the start of the race.  All gear must be placed in labeled bags and any unattended bags will be discarded.  Please do not leave anything valuable in our gear check, as Rhode Races & Events is not responsible for lost or damaged items.  Clothing discarded at the start of the race will be donated.

Does the course have many hills?

The course is relatively flat for the half marathon with a hill in and out of Bonnet Shores at miles 4-7 and another short hill between mile 8 and 9. For the full marathon, the course shares the half marathon with a split at mile 8, rejoining around mile 21.  There are some rolling hills along Snuff Mill Rd around mile 11 and again at mile 18. You can go to our website to check out the elevation map under the tab “Course Details.”

Will there be medical stops on the course?

There will be finish line medical and roving on course support.  Please let an Aid Station volunteer know you need medical aid and a sag vehicle or ambulance will be called.

Can I push a stroller?

No.  USATF insurance does not cover strollers on the course, so they are not permitted.

Can a friend or family member cross the finish line with me?

Due to the size of this race, it is allowed but not encouraged.  We would like to give all our participants ample room to finish safely.

Are there restrooms along the course?

Yes. There will be port-a-johns located at various locations around the course, at approximately 2 mi intervals.
