Redwood City OktobeRun routes

The Half-Marathon
The half-marathon is flat, partly off-road, and perfect for a personal record. Almost half the course is next to the water or wildlife refuge. Beginning and ending in downtown Redwood City, the out and back course circles the saltwater marina at OneMarina, joins the Bay Trail next to Bair Island in the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and continues to a beautiful gravel and dirt trail next to Steinberger Slough in Redwood Shores. The course is USA Track & Field certified.

The 5K follows the same course as the half-marathon, but turns around near the OneMarina community next to Redwood Creek.

What will the weather be like?
Weather is usually perfect for runners. Situated midway between San Francisco and San Jose, our location next to San Francisco Bay keeps our climate moderate and comfortable year round. The average high temperature in October is 73° and the average low is 49°.

What roads will be affected?

  • Bradford St. will be closed between Jefferson and Main from 5:30AM to 1:00 PM
  • Main St. will be closed between Bradford and Marshall from 5:30AM to 1:00 PM
  • No parking will be allowed on the east side of Marshall between Main and Maple until 11:00AM. One northbound lane of Marshall may also be closed.
  • The Walnut at Marshall intersection may be closed completely or sporadically, stopping traffic from crossing over Marshall heading north / south on Walnut from 7:25 – 10:30 AM.
  • Veterans Blvd. will be closed between Maple and Main from 7:25AM to 8:45AM, and sporadically closed from 8:45AM to 10:30AM. During peak flow, you may also experience some delays if you cross Maple as a pedestrian. There will be police and volunteers at key intersections and crosswalks to assist you.
  • Maple St. will be open to eastbound traffic only between Veterans and Blomquist from 7:30AM to 11:00AM. Westbound lanes will be closed during those times. Cars that wish to exit Maple St. and Docktown at those hours must use Blomquist and Seaport. Eastbound traffic entering that section of Maple St. and Docktown east of the freeway may experience delays and should allow extra time to get to their destination.
  • Part of the southbound lane of Skyway Rd. in San Carlos will be closed to traffic from 7:30AM - 11:00AM.
  • The Skyway Rd. - Airport Way intersection will experience sporadic closures from 7:30AM - 10:30AM.
  • Parking will be prohibited on the affected blocks of Bradford, Main, and Marshall from 8:00 PM Saturday night, October 27th until the hours listed above

Why doesn’t the distance measured by my GPS device match the official course distance?

The short answer: GPS is inexact; too inexact to measure a race course accurately. Rest assured though, the OktobeRun course was carefully measured by USA Track and Field, not GPS.

The longer answer: USATF, the governing body for the sport of running, doesn’t use GPS to certify courses because GPS and GPS devices have known technical limitations that make GPS signals and devices inexact, even under ideal circumstances (e.g. standing perfectly still, in a desert, on a clear day). That’s why we use the route as it was carefully measured and marked by an official USATF measurer.
