About
Homegrown Races: Always Safe. Always Fun! Whether you are the type of runner who rolls out of bed and runs 20 miles or 20 minutes, the Rock the Creek Relay is for you! It’s local! The Rock the Creek Relay is held in beautiful Rock Creek Park and the start and finish at Lake Needwood Park are shaded and very quiet. Each of our six legs is beautiful and eminently doable. The legs are between a bit under 4 and about 6 miles. If you want a bigger challenge, run as an Ultra team and do two legs! The Rock the Creek Relay is open to runners 16 or older on race day. Above all, this is about fun and a TEAM event: Team name, Team t-shirts, Team instead of individual. And, that’s fun!

Route information
The Rock the Creek Relay is a six-leg relay. The first runner takes off from Lake Needwood Park and heads down the Rock Creek trail to Aspen Hill Park. At the same time, the vehicle carrying the other runners heads there to the first transition.
At Transition One, the second runner takes the wrist band and heads for Transition Two. At the same time, the first runner joins his/her teammates in the vehicle and they all head to Transition Three. And so on. And so on.
Oh, and did we mention that there will be food and music at the start? Which is also the finish since this is an out and back!
The entire event, which is just under 29 miles, will take most teams between four and five hours to finish, depending upon pace.
What's included

Runners will be starting every 15 minutes between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM. There will be a maximum of 20 runners per starting wave. If your team will average 10 minutes per mile or slower, please plan to start at 7:30 or 7:45 so we can limit our volunteer shifts along the course and you can enjoy some time at the finish line party as well!
