Volunteers
Please help us help our athletes achieve their goals:
  • with registration and packet pick-up
  • at an aid station dispensing fluids
  • at the finish line handing out medals and bottled water
  • at the food and beer tent (must be over 18 to serve beer)
ALL our participants, athletes and volunteers alike, will be rewarded with a great experience:
  • located at our nation’s favorite beach
  • typically ideal weather
  • post-race celebration, including hot pasta, cold beer, and live music
  • Zorrel hi-tech shirts
If your friends or family members are coming with you, they can “participate” in your race by serving as a volunteer.

Or perhaps you’re an athlete who is not entered to participate for whatever reason – here’s an excellent opportunity to help your fellow athletes and socialize with them afterwards in a beautiful park setting on a very festive holiday.

FAQs

PACKET PICKUP
There will be packet pickups at Fit2Run in St. Pete and Tampa the weekend and weeknights before the race, as well as on race morning.

There will be 3 packet pickups the week prior to the race at the Fit2Run stores in Tampa & St. Petersburg. You can register for the race at packet pickup. There is Race Day registration and packet pickup at Fort De Soto, though we encourage you to pick up prior to Race Day to avoid long lines.

Wed., Sept. 25 – Fit2Run/Tampa – 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Thurs., Sept. 26 – Fit2Run/St. Pete – 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Sat., Sept. 28 – Fit2Run/St. Pete – 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Sun., Sept. 29 (race morning) Ft. De Soto North Shore Park – 5:30-6:45 a.m.

If you are picking up for a group, it helps us tremendously if you have all the names written on a sheet of paper. This will expedite the process and keep the line moving. Extra points if they are in alphabetical order!

Are there T-Shirts?
Though we try our best, we can not guarantee T-shirt sizes on race weekend. The shirt size you choose when you register gives us an idea of how many Ts, per size, we should order. We place our order 3 weeks in advance of race day to allow for shipping and printing. We add a percentage to account for the runners who register after the order is placed. This is not an exact science, nor do we have a crystal ball to predict what size T-shirts the new registrants will require. By picking up your packet earlier in the week, you increase your chance of getting the size you requested. So come early!

Are there Course Time Limits?
We require that runners and walkers be properly prepared and trained to finish the 15K within 3 hours (18 minute/mile pace). Please note that 3 hours after the start, course support (i.e. aid/water stations, volunteers, course marshals, clocks, etc.) is not guaranteed.

Due to our staging of this race entirely within a park and primarily on nature trails, we will NOT be offering an early walker’s start. All athletes will start at the same time in their respective races.

Are you allowed strollers?
No Strollers, Bicycles, or Dogs - All our races are sanctioned and insured through USATF for runners, joggers, and walkers ONLY. Strollers, skaters, skateboards and bicycles are NOT allowed on the course during our races.

Is it a walker friendly race?
Walkers are welcome to join these races. We require that walkers be properly prepared and trained to finish the 15K within 3 hours (18 minute/mile pace).

All walker-finishers will be rewarded with our unique “running starfish” gold medal.

Fitness Walkers are also eligible to be recognized as Triple Crown finishers.

Hi, my 12 year old son Alexi who turned 12 in July would like to participate in your 5k. He has never participated in a public event before. He was very encouraged by the fact that it said there were also age category trophies. Does that mean there is a 12 year old section? Or how do your age groups and trophies work? I would love for this to be an encouraging experience for him, which is why I ask. Many thanks Florian (Sarasota) Cell phone (310)459-1800 [email protected]

Hi Florian, thanks for getting in touch and I hope you are having a great week. I am so glad to hear that your son would like to take part in this event. Your son will be competing in the 10-14 year olds age group and if he comes in the top 3 he will win an award. All finishers in the Fort De Soto 5K earn the unique gold running starfish medal! :)
