Route information
Starting near Old Tucson, the Saguaro Half Marathon is beautiful half road half path trail run, that takes participants through the Sonoran Desert. Runners will get to see Tucson Mountain Park, the Golden Gate Trail and, at the finish line, the Old Tucson Movie Studio, a site where many classic western movies were filmed.
The Saguaro Half Marathon is a challenging course, and its hybrid nature will test participants in different ways. Starting near Old Tucson, the course starts out on a mile of pavement on Kinney Rd. The route then moves onto the Golden Gate Trail, for a gentle but steady 2 mile climb.
After this the route crosses Gate Pass Rd to move to Gate Pass Trail, which runners will stay on for several miles. There will be a downhill section from mile 2.5 to mile 4, and then a sudden climb from mile 4 to 5. There will then be some rolling hills until mile 6, where runners will return to the road
Runners will run up Kinney Rd, past the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and then turn onto the uncrowded McCain Loop. Be prepared for some significant ups and downs from mile 6 to 12. After reaching the highest point in this section at mile 12, the rest of the course heads downhill to the finish line at Old Tucson.
Please be aware that this event does NOT take place in National Park Boundaries. The National Park is next to the event, and is a beautiful. scenic place to spend time before or after the race, but the race itself takes place next to the park.
