Los Angeles Marathon route

The finish: Intersection of Ocean Ave & California Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90401

The Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon’s Stadium to the Sea course takes runners from Dodger Stadium across Los Angeles to a scenic finish just steps from the Santa Monica Pier.

The course has been measured and certified as to its distance (42.195 kilometers) in accordance with USATF requirements. As the elevation of the finish of the Event is more than 1 meter per kilometer lower than the start and as the finish is separated from the start by a distance greater than 50% of the race distance, performances in the Event are not eligible to be ratified as records.

Clocks and mile markers

digital clocks are positioned at locations throughout the course. Digital clocks provide the elapsed event time (gun time). Mile markers will be positioned at each mile. Markers will be positioned at each 5km split. Digital clocks at the finish line will display unofficial finish times. The elapsed event time begins with the male elite start.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Aid Stations are on the course?
Twenty-two (22) fully-staffed aid stations will feature both Water and Gatorade Endurance Formula Lemon-Lime. Gatorade Endurance Formula has nearly two times the sodium and three times the potassium of traditional Gatorade. Newly reformulated, it now contains no artificial flavors or sweeteners and has a new, lighter flavor. Participants are advised to continue moving through the Aid Station if the first tables are too crowded to conveniently obtain fluids.
Is there food available on the course?
There will be two CLIF SHOT® Energy Gels stations on course (Mile 12 and Mile 19).
How long is the course open?
The 6 hour, 30 minute course time limit means race officials will reopen streets to vehicular traffic on a rolling basis at a 15:00 per mile pace. Participants still on the course at this time will be required to move to the sidewalks and obey all traffic signals. Participants who cross the finish line after 6:30:00 are not guaranteed to be recognized as Official Finishers and are not guaranteed a medal or finishing time.
Can I run with an iPod/headphones?
Yes. USATF, the national governing body of the sport, recently amended its ban on headphones, iPods and similar devices. It is recommended that athletes keep only one ear bud in to be able to hear directions from race officials or emergency vehicles. Athletes competing for prize money are not allowed to use electronic devices such as headphones and ear pieces.
Where and when is the Health & Fitness Expo and Packet Pick-Up?
The 2020 Health & Fitness Expo and Packet Pick-Up will be held on Friday, March 22: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm Saturday, March 23 from 9:00am-5:00pm at the Los Angeles Convention Center in West Hall. There is NO race day Participant Packet and Bag Pick-Up. No exceptions!
