The Soldier Marathon & Half Marathon race starts and finishes at the National Infantry Museum, runs through parts of Ft Benning and on the beautiful Columbus RiverWalk. The course is reasonably flat with one hill and a few short inclines. The weather is usually clear with a low in the mid 30's to 40's and a high in the mid 60's. The Soldier 5k also starts at the National Infantry Museum immediately after the Half Marathon start. Because of the width of the Riverwalk, the Soldier Marathon does not allow participants who use hand-cranks.

It is a great race that I have run several times and continue running for as long as it is held. I do miss drill hill though. I was able to attain a Personal Record for the Half Marathon and finish in less than 2 hours for the first time. 1:58:51.

The race course had to be changed in 2018 due to the excessive rain that we had the week before and the flooding on the riverwalk. The organizers provided updates via email and were able to get the course changed and re-certified prior to the race. It wasn't as nice going three long laps as it is going into town, but they made the change as painless as possible. Great food at the end and such a fun time running through the flags to the finish. Great small town race! I hope they keep the marathon in the future!

The race was great. Its unfortunate we didnt get to run the riverwalk, but that was out of their control and they did great with the resources they had. The 3:45 pacing group was my only real complaint. She was an awesome person with an infectious personality, but it was WAY TOO fast. We were running 20-30 seconds ahead at the first half. 90% of that corral dropped out after mile 14. After we kept passing runners pacing themselves well ahead of 3:45 and asking us why we were going so fast I finally realized my watch wasnt going crazy and purposely fell back. Yes, they ended up finishing right on time, but people who hadnt been training at 8:00-8:10 paces were wrecked by mile 20 (myself included). This was a common gripe amongst the runners i spoke with after the race.

Race was great. Perfect placement for aid stations. Great environment. Only downside was multiple loops.
