Newport-Mesa Spirit Run Mile routes
These are fast courses!ADULT 5K, 10K, & JUAN RAMIREZ 15K (10K+5K)
The Adult 5k and 10k are for age 19 and older. Those really wanting a workout compete in both races - the "Juan Ramirez 15k."
There is a time limit for the 10K. Competitors must maintain a 13 minute per mile pace or will be directed to the side of the road.
ADULT MILE RACES
Whether you're an elite athlete competing for cash, a competitive athlete looking to set a personal record or test your fitness, or a casual runner looking for fun, Spirit Run has a mile race for you!
The Elite Mile is for men and women who can run a mile faster than 4:15 and 4:50 minutes, respectively. Field will be limited to 15 men and 15 women.
The Open Mile is for adults who don't meet the elite standards but can finish a mile in 10 minutes or less. Those who run faster than 7:00 minutes may start in front.
The Family Mile is for individual adults or adults with their families to run together. Participants have 20 minutes to finish.
The Youth 5k is for high school aged and younger. Children race without adult interference and a child breaks the finish line tape!
Parents or guardians of youth in the Youth 5k may register for the Adult 5k and run with their children in the Youth 5k, but must start in the back of the pack and later catch up with their children. No awards are available for such adults and no other adults are allowed.
YOUTH MILE RACES
Spirit Run offers multiple youth mile races, from 1/4 to 1-mile, broken down by age group as follows:
- Age 4: 1/4 Mile
- Age 5-6: 1/2 Mile
- Age 7-8: 1 Mile
- Age 9-10: 1 Mile
- Age 11-14: 1 Mile - pre high school only; if 13 or 14 and in high school, enter Open Mile
- Age 15-18: 1 Mile - high school students participate with adults on Open Mile course
THE DOG MILEThe Dog Mile is for age 13 and older to run or walk with their four-legged friends on leashes. Participants must finish in 15 minutes.
This event is for children age 3 and younger. It takes place in the expo inside a fenced large astro turf covered area. Multiple start times take place between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m

Are there cash prizes?
Elite Mile - Spirit Run is changing its cash prize purse in the Elite Mile. It will be awarding cash prizes to a certain number of men who break 4:00 minutes and women, 4:30. Check back soon for more details. Adult 5k Open & Masters- Check back soon for more details. Cash prizes will be mailed after the event. Elite registrants will receive an email before the event with rules and other details of the races and prizes.
What are Blaze Pizza's prizes?

Meet the organizer
Spirit Run is presented by Newport-Mesa Spirit Run, Inc. (NMSRI), a California nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benfit corporation. Spirit Run's net proceeds benefit youth education and fitness. From 1983-2010, Spirit Run was presented by five Newport Beach elementary schools. In 2010, Newport-Mesa Spirit Run, Inc. (NMSRI) was founded to continue Spirit Run and to share its net proceeds with schools throughout the Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD). In 2017, NMSRI introduced "Dash for Cash" for schools and high school teams outside NMUSD. Schools and teams participating in "Dash for Cash" earn a minimum of 25%, and as much as 45%, of registration fees paid by their supporters. OUR MISSION NMSRI is operated by volunteers dedicated to continuing Spirit Run and promoting childhood fitness and education. NMSRI's mission is (1) to present a community event promoting childhood fitness; (2) to provide free training, event entries, and bus transportation to local students who are unable to pay; and (3) to provide an opportunity to receive a share of net proceeds to youth fitness, education, and other youth causes demonstrating commitment to our mission.
