What makes this such a popular race? Is it the refreshing cool breezes in August? The flat course? The race shirt? The finisher medal? The custom age group medals? Probably the 'It's It' ice cream sandwiches at the finish! Find out for yourself at our 10th Annual Summer Breeze races. Everybody will enjoy a flat, easy bayside trail that rarely strays more than a few feet from water. Perfect for setting a personal record.vHikers/walkers are always welcome!

What’s Included

SHIRTS
Half marathon runners get their choice of a technical fabric t-shirt or cotton. The tech shirt is great for running. The cotton is usually best for casual, non-running purposes.

10K and 5K runners receive a cotton shirt, but have the option of upgrading to a technical shirt for $7.

All shirts are gender-specific and come in sizes ranging from youth small to men's 4XL.

FINISHERS MEDALS
All participants will receive a custom event finisher's medal.

Course Details

All three courses are out and back along the shoreline. Races begin in San Leandro Marina Park and proceed south along the shoreline, into the Hayward Regional Shoreline, turn around and come back to the Marina Park.

All courses begin and finish on 80-100 yards of grassy field. The 5K is otherwise entirely paved. the 10K has a about 1/2 mile of packed dirt trails. The half marathon is approximately 50% paved and 50% packed dirt.

Half marathon runners must reach the fourth aid station (mile 10) by 11:30 am (20+ minute per mile pace).

HALF MARATHON HIKER DIVISION
For half marathon participants who wish to walk/hike the course and expect to take more than 3.5 hours, we offer a "Hiker Division" start at 7:00 am. Hiker starts will not be eligible to win the race or for age group awards, but will be listed as official finishers in the Hiker Division results and will still receive finisher medals.

WATER STATIONS
Water stations will be stocked with water, sports drink, gels, pretzels, candy, etc. and will be placed at the following approximate mileage:

5K: Mile 1.25

10K: Miles 1.5, 3, 3.25 and 4.7

Half Marathon: Miles 1.5, 3, 6.55, 10.1 and 11.6

Raceday Logistics

PACKET PICK-UP
Runners have three options for picking up their bibs and shirts:

1. Mail-out service (available for a fee when registering).

2. Pick-up in person at Road Runner Sports in Berkeley on Thursday, August 1st (3 pm - 7 pm) and Friday, August 2nd (11 am - 3 pm). Runners who pick their bib up in person will enjoy a special discount for picking up early.

3. Pick up on race morning (not recommended).

In order to avoid race morning stress and avoid having to arrive even earlier, we strongly recommend choosing options 1 or 2. If you are unable to take advantage of those first two options, race morning pick-up will still be available, but you should aim to arrive 70-90 minutes ahead of your race start to account for lines.

START TIMES
Half Marathon (Hikers) - 7:00 AM
Half Marathon - 8:00 AM
10K - 8:15 AM
5K - 8:30 AM

FAQs

I AM A VERY SLOW RUNNER. AM I GOING TO BE OUT OF PLACE?
You won't be out of place at all. Our races are planned for participants of all abilities, including walkers/hikers.

CAN I WEAR HEADPHONES?
Yes, but we ask that you keep the volume down at a safe level so that you can hear other runners or instructions from event personnel. We also ask that you remove them, or, at the very least, remove one ear bud when you are coming to aid stations, in a large crowd or on more technical or difficult sections of the course. The important thing is paying attention to everyone's safety and maintaining basic race etiquette with other runners.

CAN I REGISTER ON THE DAY OF THE RACE?
It is possible that the race is 100% sold out before race day. Updates will be posted on this race website. If you do not see the race noted as sold out here or on the race home page, you will be okay to sign up on race morning, starting at 6:30 a.m. Race day registration is an additional $5 from the final online registration price.

IS THERE A TIME LIMIT?
The half marathon has a 4 hour time limit. Walkers/Hikers needing more time will have the option of starting 1 hour early but must be able to follow the course using only a map since course marshals may not be on the course. Those starting early will also be ineligible for age-group or overall awards.

CAN MY DOG RUN WITH ME DURING THE RACE?
Unfortunately, no. As much as we love dogs and running with our own, not everyone is comfortable being around dogs (even if leashed) and for reasons of safety (for those with two legs and four) we ask runners not to bring their dogs along for the race.
