Come join us in the beautiful redwood groves of the Santa Cruz Mountains! Tucked away just outside Silicon Valley, Sanborn County Park features miles of single-track trails dappled with filtered light through lush canopy.

Half Marathon and 10K runners will ascend to peaks offering spectacular views and all distances will include breathtaking single track trails.

While experienced runners will enjoy the challenge and exploration of new territory, those new to the trails will also discover a whole new world of running where it is perfectly normal (and highly recommended!) to walk the hills and save your energy for the flat and downhill sections.

Summit Rock Half Marathon, 10K & 5K routes

All courses include a mix of fire roads, single track and very small sections of paved trail. The half marathon and 10K include a climb up to the top of Sanborn Park. Smart runners will walk the hills and save their energy for the flats and downhills!

All participants will receive a copy of their appropriate course map on race day. Each course will be marked with colored ribbons, signs and flour, so that runners know they are on the correct course. Volunteers will also be on the course at key locations to help direct runners.

What’s Included

All runners will receive custom finisher medals and t-shirts. There will be age-group medals for the top finishers in each category.

Raceday Logistics

Bib Pick-Up:

Runners have three options for picking up their bibs and shirts:

1. Mail-out service (available for a fee when registering).
2. We will have early pick-up available on Thursday, December 12, 2019 (3:00 pm to 7:00 pm) and Friday, December 13, 2019, (11:00 am to 3:00 pm) at Road Runner Sports in Campbell. Early pick-up is highly recommended, but if that is not possible for you, we will still have bib pick-up available on race morning.
3. Pick up on race morning (not recommended).

In order to avoid race morning stress and avoid having to arrive even earlier, we strongly recommend choosing options 1 or 2. If you are unable to take advantage of those first two options, race morning pick-up will still be available, but you should aim to arrive 70-90 minutes ahead of your race start to account for lines.

Hikers:

For half marathon participants who wish to hike the course and take more than 4.5 hours, we will offer a "Hiker Division" start at 7:30 am. Those starting at 7:30 should carry water as the first and second aid stations might not be 100% up and running, depending on the hiker's speed. Hiker starts will not be eligible to win the race or for age group awards, but will be listed as official finishers in the Hiker Division and will still receive finisher medals.

Time Limits:

The half marathon has a 4.5 hour time limit to finish the course.

All half marathon runners must reach the third aid station (mile 6.55) by 10:45 am and the fourth aid station (mile 9.94) by noon. Runners unable to reach the aid stations before those cut-offs will be instructed to exit the course and accept a ride back to the start/finish area.

Water Stations:

Water stations will be stocked with water, sports drink, gels, pretzels, candy, etc.

Stations on course will be approximately 2-3 miles apart. Those needing water more frequently are encouraged to carry a water bottle or hydration pack.

Bathrooms:

Restrooms will only be available at the race start/finish area.

FAQs

I am a very slow runner. Am I going to be out of place?

You won't be out of place at all. Our races are planned for participants of all abilities, including walkers/hikers.

Can I wear headphones?

Yes, but we ask that you keep the volume down at a safe level so that you can hear other runners or instructions from event personnel. We also ask that you remove them, or, at the very least, remove one ear bud when you are coming to aid stations, in a large crowd or on more technical or difficult sections of the course. The important thing is paying attention to everyone's safety and maintaining basic race etiquette with other runners.

Do you offer a group discount? Frequent runner discount? Family discount? Coupon? Special break for running more than one race?

We do not.

Will there be somewhere to leave my warm-up clothes?

Yes, there will be a sweat-check area and these will be checked in and watched over by a volunteer. Bags for storing your sweats will be available if you do not bring your own. Please do not leave valuables in your sweat bags – we cannot be responsible for these items.

Can my dog run with me during the race?

Unfortunately no. As much as we love dogs and running with our own, not everyone is comfortable being around dogs (even if leashed) and for reasons of safety (for those with two legs and four) we ask runners not to bring their dogs along for the race.

Will the race be cancelled if it rains?

No. The race will be held, rain or shine. Courses may be modified to account for weather conditions.
