The Olympic distance Surf City Escape Triathlon will begin with a challenging 1-mile swim in the Pacific Ocean, entering through the same beach break as the world renowned U.S. Open of Surfing. Triathletes will swim along the shoreline with the backdrop of the world famous Huntington Beach Pier. A 12-mile, double-loop bike course will then take athletes along the breathtaking Pacific Coast Highway. Showcasing the Pacific Ocean coastline the entire ride, the entire course is flat and fast. Coveted road closures along Pacific Coast Highway will allow athletes plenty of room for a safe fast ride and for spectators to capture all the action. The final 6.2-mile run will turn up the challenge as it takes athletes on to the pristine beach for a deep sand run then back to the spectator-friendly beachfront start/transition/finish.
The 2018 race will close out the 2017-2018 Escape Series Qualifying process with valuable slots being awarded to the top three finishers in each age group to the 2018 Escape from Alcatraz in San Francisco. Top age group finishers will receive a FREE slot into this prestigious race. Chosen by many as the most iconic triathlon in the world today, the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon is the ultimate bucket list event for any endurance athlete.

OLYMPIC COURSE
This beautiful course will travel through some of the most picturesque sections of Huntington Beach. The start/finish area and the transition area will be located just off of the Pacific Coast Highway – half mile south of the famed Huntington Beach Pier. The Olympic AquaBike will follow the same swim and bike course as the Olympic Triathlon.
SWIM
The 1500 meter swim will be a point-to-point course in the Pacific Ocean. The swim will conclude with a short run through the sand which will lead into the transition area.
BIKE
After exiting the transition area, athletes will start the two loop, 40k, bike course along Pacific Coast Highway. Each loop of the bike course will consist of long flat stretches with a turnaround at each end. After the second loop, athletes will make a left hand turn into the transition area.
RUN
After exiting the transition area, athletes will head west parallel to Pacific Coast Highway to begin the one lap run course. After approximately the first mile, athletes will then make a slight left then right to continue the run on the Huntington Beach bike path. Athletes will continue on the Huntington Beach bike path until reaching Seapoint Street. At Seapoint, athletes will make a left hand turn and head down the bluff onto the sand. For the next quarter of a mile, athletes will continue on the sand until returning again to the Huntington Beach bike path. The course will be extremely well marked for directions and will offer water/aid stations every mile.
