We had a fabulous time at the 2019 Tallahassee Half Marathon! The course is well supported with water, Gatorade, and Honey Stinger gels at every stop. Race started on-time and was well organized. Perks included indoor bathrooms at the start, bag check, shuttle back to the start, and women's cut shirts (not Unisex). Thank you announcer for saying my name at the finish. Thank You Meb Keflezighi for coming to the event. I saw Meb at the expo and the finish line!
I really enjoyed the Tallahassee half marathon. While for someone from south Florida the hills were bit much but I knew going in about them. The only reaso I didnt give the course 5 stars was on Franklin where we had to use the bike lane which made the course very narrow in that section. I will be back next year.
The event is well organized. The aid was plentiful. Nice medal. The course was flat after the first few miles but is somewhat boring. You can certainly get into a good rhythm during the back half of the race. There weren't many runners but I was never alone. Post race food was great! If you want a well organized, small marathon, I would highly recommend this one.
My first marathon, so I dont have much to compare it to except shorter races. I did really enjoy my race and hope to run it again next year! It would have been one of the best-run half marathons on an amazingly fun and varied course (not too hilly, not too easy) with a good crowd of supporters throughout, had I chosen to do that. But ... for the full marathon... well, that 10-mile bit on the St. Marks Trail was a real challenge mentally, and being too flat has its own challenges. The monotony, the lack of crowds and distractionsit was tough on the mental game. But I knew it would be, since I had run it in training. One is endlessly hoping for the turn around! But of course, the mental game is all part of the challenge, right? It was nice, to break up the monotony, to have the trail break off into the Jake Gaither suburb on the way out. But I felt like maybe we needed a few more cones and signs here and there. There could have been more guidance by the FSU stadium, too. And keeping cheering volunteers and water stations until the last runner would have been good, too.My husband and I were one of the last to come in, but still within the cut-off time But water stations had stopped giving out water once we came along. However, the further we went along, the friendlier and more encouraging the cops became! It was a real boost.Overall, it was a really great race for half marathonerswho were, admittedly, the bulk of the runnersand maybe hard-core marathoners dont need so much hand-holding, but I would not have minded a bit more water and support at the end. But I hope to be back next year!
Very hilly first half and an up hill finish made for a very tough 1st marathon. Lots of police presence and volunteers made for a safe and well marked course. Very scenic and enjoyable route. There was very little crowd support and only my fam and the ribbon placer at the finish line. No fam fare-disappointing for my 1st finish. No blankets or thermal wraps after pouring rain, high winds and flooded trail. By the time I finished, there were very few snacks left-1 slice of cold pizza, 2 bowls of cold rice and a few old bananas. The people who are on the course the longest need as much or more support than quick finishers.
