Ready to embark on a challenging and rewarding off-road adventure? Its time to enter the world of XTERRA Triathlon. The fourth annual event will be Sunday, September 9, 2018!

XTERRA is a series of off-road triathlon races, i.e. three-sport races which include swimming, mountain biking, and trail running. Or more simply put, its an epic off-road experience that will rock your world! The trail runs take place in conjunction with the XTERRA Laguna Beach Triathlon and is now a part of the official XTERRA SoCal Trail Run series.

Course Details

XTERRA Long Course Triathlon
A longer race for experienced off-road enthusiasts. A 1500m Swim in the Pacific, followed by a rigorous 25k Bike before a nice (and hilly) 10k Run.

XTERRA Sprint Course Triathlon
A ‘shorter’ race for people looking to get into off-road racing. A 500m Swim in the Pacific, followed by a ‘less’ rigorous 16k Bike before a nice and challenging 6k Run.

1500m Open Water Swim
You asked, we delivered! The 1500m Open Water Swim is here! Enter the water wiith all the athletes for a 1500m ocean swim in the beautiful Pacific.

13k Trail Run
Looking for a run on the trails (no swimming or biking needed!)? Look no further. We’ve got a 13k trail run that includes some new exciting single track!

6k Trail Run
This trail run offers a beautiful course for those not quite ready for the long course.

The event is at CRYSTAL COVE STATE PARK, just 10 minutes south of Newport Beach in Orange County, CA. The park is located off Pacific Coast Highway between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach, California with easy access from I-5, 405 and 73.


From the 405 South, take the 73 South to Macarthur Blvd. Take this to PCH and go south to El Moro/Crystal Cove State Park. Turn left into the park and follow the signs! Parking is $15.00 at the State Parks. Correct change is appreciated. Support your State Parks and park in the lots (and don’t park in the dirt)!

From South OC – take PCH to the Park. Or the 73 Toll Road if you wish (exit El Toro and take this to Laguna Beach). Once you reach PCH – turn north to Crystal Cove State Park.

Kit List

The organisers recommend trail running shoes, but they are not compulsory.

Are strollers allowed on the course?

No Way!

Are dogs allowed on the course?

NO! While we love pets, we ask everyone to leave their animal family members at home.

Are there restrooms at the event?

YES! There are plenty of restrooms located the Transition Area and around the park.

Swim Info

• No swim fins, hand paddles or any swimming aids are allowed (snorkels are allowed).

• Athletes must wear XTERRA swim caps provided at body marking;

• BRING YOUR WETSUIT TO RACE START—wetsuit use determined by water temperature on race morning.

Bike Info

• Assistance is limited to tools, tubes or any item that would be used to repair a faulty part or damaged bicycle or water, food, or first aid. Exchanging bikes is not allowed.

• The only permitted bicycles are mountain bikes. Bicycle must have 26″, 27.5” or 29” wheels and straight handlebars. Cyclo-cross bikes and bicycles with drop handlebars are prohibited. Bar extensions or grips off the handlebars may not exceed 5”.

• Drafting is allowed.

• Competitors must display the front number plate at all times. No advertising stickers, writing or alterations of the number plate are allowed.

• Approved helmets must be worn at all times while on the bike.

Run Info

• Competitors must display their run number on the front of their body. No advertising stickers, writing or alterations of the race number are allowed. Number holders are permitted.

General Rules

• No headphones of any kind are permitted while competing.
