Epic Events

We are Epic Events. We organise triathlon, running, cycling and open water swimming events in the North West of England.

The Eden Valley Epic Cycle Sportive is a classic on the North West sportive calendar. Starting from Penrith Leisure centre, the route is just short of 60 miles through the stunning Eden Valley. It's undulating, it's beautiful, but it's not as severe as many Lake District routes.

One thing you'll notice is the distinct lack of cars, which makes it perfect cycling country. There's a food stop in Appleby village, which is well stocked and will help you refuel for the final miles, which include a sting in the tail.

It's one of our most popular events and a great opener for the season, so make sure you're on the start line!

The EPIC Fire Fighters '2UP' Duathlon is a unique event which takes place in March in conjunction with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue. It's known locally as the 'start of season social race' but there's nothing particularly 'social' about the course! It's a fantastic event, an awesome atmosphere, lots of team rivalries and smiles all round. Grab your partner and get entered!

The Parbold Duathlon takes place from the Farmer's Arms public house in Hildale near Parbold and It has become a North West classic. It's one of the oldest events on the calendar and limited to only 150 competitors. The 5k run is a 2 loop course on undulating roads and the 18 mile cycle route is a 3 lap course which means climbing Parbold Hill 3 times, once on each lap. The atmosphere is always great, it has a 'local feel' and the racing always attracts a range of novices through to elite competitors. If you're lucky enough to get one of the limited places, you'll have an EPIC day!

The Wheelbase Spring Classic starts and finishes in Staveley Mill Yard, near Kendal. There are two great routes to choose from, either the long course which is 70 miles or the short course which is 44 miles. Both routes have been designed to include an early timed hill climb over Shap, supported by Wheelbase.

The fastest male and female up the 1.7 mile climb will receive a riders jersey and the title king / Queen of the Mountain. The short route returns via Grayrigg and the long route via Sedbergh.

The long route is supported with an optional food and hot drink stop in Sedbergh, but don't get too comfy, it's a bit 'lumpy' on the way back and you wouldn't want to stop for too long and let your legs to go to sleep.

Ulverston Triathlon will consist of a 400m pool swim, a 28k road cycle and a 5.8k run.

The swim will take place at Ulverston Leisure Centre. Swimmers will start from 8:30am through to 1.30pm, based upon ability level. You will complete 16 lengths of a 25m pool.

The bike route takes place on the coast road from Ulverston Leisure Centre. It is 28k in length and is an undulating out and back route. The event is non-drafting (you cannot ride directly behind another competitor to shelter from the wind) and you must not ride 2 abreast on the road. The road is not closed to traffic and so you must follow the Highway Code at all times, riding responsibly. The route is adequately signed throughout to guide you and there will be marshals at critical locations.

The 5.8k run is largely road based with a small section of canal towpath. It is relatively flat and is only one loop.

The West Lancs Triathlon takes place from Edge Hill University, which provides the perfect venue. This is one of the most highly rated events for first timers in the North West. All abilities take part including some of the region's elite competitors, but the event has really made it's name as the perfect first time challenge. It's always a great day and it always fills quickly!

The bike follows the quiet partially closed country roads to the rear of the University and the run takes in the on campus fitness trail and both lakes!

The Clitheroe Triathlon is a challenging course set in the Ribble Valley. It starts with a 400m pool swim, but the real fun starts on the bike as the 30k ride is 'lumpy' and includes the climb up Jeffrey Hill, onto Longridge Fell. The run is relatively flat compared the the bike ride, it's 8k out and back on road and should be enough to make you feel happy about reaching the finish line. We get a lot of novices taking part in this event, but it is more challenging than some of our other sprint triathlon events. Don't let that put you off, it's an EPIC day out!

The sprint distance event is a 750m swim / 20k cycle / 5k run, the standard distance is 1500m swim / 40k cycle / 10k run. The cycle course takes place on closed roads and the run course is based around the marina on tarmac paths.

The Cumbrian Cracker is one of the original Lakeland cycle sportives. It's a 60 miles route which starts and finishes in Grasmere village and climbs 'Red Bank' within the first mile! The route continues around the back of Coniston Water to reach the food stop at Cartmel scout hut. The return leg then weaves it's way through fantastic country lanes, via Grizedale forest, Hawkshead and Ambleside. The route is undulating but does not climb any of the major passes. The roads in South Lakeland are some of the best you will ever ride and well worth the trip! This is a classic Autumn sportive and an EPIC day out on the bike, make sure you join us!
