I’ve written a full review here. In summary, the pre race communication was excellent. There were a few last minute changes to the bike course due to weather and gas works, but they were communicated very well. The race briefing was very clear.Transition was small and laid out by number. The swim was 2 laps of Stanborough lake, it wasn’t a hectic swim and sighting was easy. The ride was not on closed roads, but it was early enough for the traffic to be light and not really a problem. The course was largely flat, with one or two small lumps thrown in for good measure. The run was 4 laps of the park, again very well signed / marked out. One climb in the middle of the lap, so it wasn’t completely flat.At the end, there was a medal, banana and water, but not much else. The marshals around the course and everyone involved in organisation were very helpful / supportive and I would certainly consider doing this race again.

I love the events ATW offer. You can literally plan your year/season around their race calendar. I try to do as many as possible and all at a very competitive price.Positives:
An easy lake to navigate with a sensible wave size - not busy or lonely.
An out and back bike course on a variation of roads - best described as undulating.
A pleasant quiet run on grass with a small incline.
    Enthusastic marshals.
    Friendly event organisers.
Fab goodies - T-Shirts, Bottles and Medal are great!
Quick results printout and post race email
    Areas of improvement:
The aid station could do with some sugar/gels?
    Loud speaker for briefing/presentation?
Recommend to all and check out their other events, so much on offer! Thanks Active Training World! See you at the next event

As a qualifier there were far too many people in the waves. I didn't speak to anyone who had a good thing to say about the swim. The first buoy was also a pinch point and caused a lot of athletes to have their worst swim ever!

Really enjoyable, good venue, easy to get to, close transitions and very flat so PB friendly
  • Did the 10K in 2018

The race was managed very well except there could have been another water station at the other end of the lake... it was very hot and there is no shade so an extra drink would of helped. Thanks
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2018

Excellent race, really well organised and great atmosphere. Lovely scenic setting and totally flat Course! Also great to go to a race where you then also dont have to pay more to park and there arent annoying rules about using headphones.10/10 and look forward to doing it again :)

  • Did the Metric Triathlon in 2018

Firstly thanks for a brilliant event. There was quite a bit of grumbling about signage. I think this affected the run more than anything else but personally I was struggling to know what to do at the end of lap two of the metric cycle. I had to ask and so did my daughter. Once I knew I was heading up the hill I was in the wrong gear and the upshot was chain off. The girl Marshall immediately put her hand on the derailleur to allow me position the chain, she knows her stuff. Give her my thanks if you can. For next year please number the bag slots. I made a fool of myself searching but others had an issue too. Please ensure we have similar weather at future events, it was perfect.

  • Did the Olympic in 2018

It was my first olympic distance tri, I was pleased not to be battling waves and swell. Good atmosphere, some pretty serious racers were there probably for the flat course, but plenty of first timers too. This is a lap-heavy race, but at least you can't get lost. Well organised and good for spectators as you can see all the racing from one spot apart from the back straight on the bike loop.
  • Did the Sprint in 2018

This was my first triathlon and it was so much fun, I want to do it all over again. It was really small, only about 20 women in my wave, but it was perfect for beginners. They played great music by the bike racks so the atmosphere was brilliant, everyone was so nice and the medals were sparkly which was a huge bonus :) The course is very flat, you do laps though so it could get boring maybe, there was a serious crosswind on the day, but it was great fun being able to see all the boys from their wave, and friends doing the Olympic. Lots of high fiving on the run, couldn't recommend this more for beginners, or people wanting a PB. I'll definitely be doing it next year.

Another good race from the Thames Turbo Tri Club.Always lovely to swim in Hampton Open-air Pool, unique pool length (36 metres per length).Cycle takes in a cross section of West London, from catching a glimpse of Hampton Court Palace to riding out into what feels like the countryside. All within the 22 km ride. Most of the roads are smooth, though there are some rough sections (thankfully no large potholes). Also, to add fairness to the event, they have the 7 minute deadzone. The run takes in the lovely Bushy Park, one of those places everyone must run at least once. Finally, the marshalling of the event is amazing. Always friendly and helpful.HIGHLY recommend for beginners through to experts.
  • Did the event in 2016

Good decision to try to run the event despite the storm. Undoubtedly sensible and Triathlon-England-dictated to convert to aquathlon given the high and gusting winds. Big hand to TTT for keeping the event going until the final show-stopper (closure of Bushey Park by the Royal Parks authorities because of the danger of faling branches). Everybody, volunteers, marshals, officials and race director were friendly cheerful and helpful despite it all.Looking forward to 30 May for the next one - and well done for getting it added to the London League.
  • Did the event in 2015

Fantastic race! Swim is well organised, bike is flat and fast, the run is through the stunning grounds of Bushey Park. My only quarm was the  timing chip as it was attached to a flimsy paper strap which easily fell off during the swim. Velcro straps next time please! Aside from that, I will definitely be coming back again!

I did the 10 k run option this year, after doing the aquathlon last year (can't swim at the moment due to wound on leg).  This is a multi-sport event with races starting off at different times, the 5 and 10 k runs were at 1000 am.Registration was easy, you can collect your number the day before (did this as local to me).  However, the timing chip wasn't available until the next day, but there was no queue to collect this.  There's no official baggage storage (most people leave these in their cars or in transition), but if you've come by tube/bike for the run you can leave it under the stairs by registration. The race starts by the lake, with the 5 k (one lap) and 10 k  (two) legs going together.  There were only 26 in the 10 k, so it's not too crowded.  The run initially goes around the lake, and then loops around the Merchant Taylors school sports field.  It's funny going past the pavillion whilst the criket teams are warming up, last year it was Middlesex and Sussex 2nd XIs there.  The grass surface is good for running and there are some nice long straights.  However, quite a bit is unshaded, so it can be a bit hot on the run.  You then head off for a second loop, and there is a water station as you start this.  There's only really support at the start/end/transition area, but the marshals around the course are all very good.  The DJ is enthusiastic as well. The medal is decent enough for a budget event, and a bottle of water is handed to you at the end.  There's a nice atmopshere and feel about the event, there's still a lot going on as people are coming in from the bike and tri events (having runners doing the 70.3 tri overtaking you at speed is quite humbling).  As there are permanent changing facilities, there's quite a few toilets available and the upstairs cafe/bar is lovely.  There's a reasonable amount of parking available, and not too far from the tube station at Moor Park.  All in all, it's a nice small multi-sport event, would probably do again as it's local, but may tri the aquathlon or swim next time.

  • Did the Sprint Saturday in 2018

It was ok, initially my A race for the season but soon fell by the wayside. Swim was split into waves just as we were about to go, without grading people (faster in group 1 etc) so as a result we got set off 2 mins behind the first group so had to swim through some of the slower swimmers. Bike course was flat and fast but too narrow for the number of competitors (& certainly not big enough for PR filming motorbikes to be going as well). Run course was similar, too narrow for the number of people, water cups filled 1/3-1/2 which wasn't enough given the 30 deg day. It was also mis-measured, ended up running ~6km for the 5 km sprint section...
  • Did the Olympic Saturday in 2017

Really enjoyed my first Olympic distance tri! Got a PB on the run course, just dont open your mouth on the swim.
  • Did the Olympic Sunday in 2017

It was my first Olympic triathlon and I absolutely loved it. Cycling through redlights in London and having the roads closed off was pretty amazing. The swim was not as bad as I thought it would be in terms of dirty water. The only drawback is that the run was over populated and very crowded. I know some people felt the swim was also overcrowded.

It's the second time I've raced at Thorpe Park- I loved the venue in 2016, so signed up again for 2017.Unfortunately the swim waves were moved forward (due to the terrorist attack in London the night before) but no one actually announced it, so I almost missed my start. Poor communication unfortunately and it effected several people.Bike course is flat and fast, easy to navigate.Run course is within the park as the rides are coming to life for the day, it's quite eery but great fun. Medal is cool and you get discounted entry to the park if you fancy going on the rides after racing.Read more here: http://paddlepedalpace.co.uk/2017/06/race-re-cap-thorpe-park-triathlon-2017/

  • Did the event in 2016

Had a really enjoyable experience at my first Thorpe Sprint Tri.   Very easy registration and racking process before the race.  Simple pre-race talk before getting in to the water for a static OW start.  Easy swim up and down thorpe lake and out straight in to bike transition. A bit gravelly but mats out to ease the barefoot run! Well sign posted cycle route with lots of marshalls out on route as well to direct (and support!) Not a scenic route as it's on the main roads but being so early in the morning meant no cars about and a nice fast course. Loved the 5km trail run to finish.  Following the outskirts of the lake you have to be careful underfoot (& this was my first time trail running!) but a nice change from running on roads.  Mostly a circular route with a short up and back to get the distance in. This was my first race where there was just one wave of competitors so you could actually tell your position throughout the whole route, which gave it that slightly more competitive edge (for me at least!) Overall, would thoroughly recommend for any level 'athlete'!

a good local sprint distance race at a venue which is close to London.  The Lake swim is easy to sight and pretty standard.Pancake flat bike course around the lake and flat run.volunteers super helpful and free parking.  I would allow a little time to get there on race day as traffic does build up.would do again as an early season hit out.
  • Did the event in 2018

This was my second race at Eton Dorney and my 1st Sprint there having done another Human Race tri last year but an Olympic Length one. Booking was straightforward and the cost was just under £75 including the booking fee. I thought this was a little high given that doesn't include a t-shirt any any sort of 'goodies' other than a free none alcholic beer at the end (very welcome). Nevertheless I paid it as it offers and nice early opportunity to get racing!Getting to the venue is straightforward and they have ample parking although it is a 15 minute walk to the start from the car park. The venue itself is amazing and really lends itself to sprint distance - I found doing an Olympic there a little monotonous. The nature of the course means that spectators can see you easily in all three disciplines whilst enjoying excellent facilties in what is a really nice venue. The event village had the usual food stalls etc along with a few stands to buy last minute bits and pieces and event merch. It also had an ample number of toilets which makes a change as most events seem to grossly underestimate the need for these! Registration on the day was straightforward and well organised as was the transition zone which was well ordered and marshalled and had ample space. The race briefing was ok bar some pretty bad jokes about 'girls' doing there make-up or whatever - they were mildly irksome in what was a pretty friendly atmosphere in the ladies 30-34 wave. The swim was pleasant enough although they let us into the water too early so we were treading water for about 7 minutes before we finally went off in what was an almighty washing machine thanks to all having been pushed into the bank by the time 7 minutes elapsed! I enjoy a good group start so this didn't bother me too much but I'd advise anyone who isn't so keen to make sure to place themselves at the back. The swim route is an easy one to follow and the water quality excellent -well, it didn't tast too bad. Swim exit and t1 were fine - usual calamity of people trying to find bikes and flailing around to get wetsuits off. The spacing between waves and sensible numbers in each meant that the cycle start was painless and the nature of the course means you can get a move on pretty quick-ish. The course itself was 4 laps around the lake so its quick and flat but not overly inspiring; there is plenty of space for riders and  I never found myself without space to over take or be overtaken comfortably. The fact it is four laps SHOULD mean four photo opps (and chance for family to see you of course!). I have a major gripe with this in that, despite seeing a photographer on all 4 laps, no pics have been released after 11am which was BEFORE a lot of people have even started and neither Human Race of Awol Photography have had the good grace to get back to me. Very dissapointing. The run was and out and back route next to the lake which seemed to take an eternity, especailly the last 500m when I could swear the finish was moving away from me. At the end you are met by a fair sized crowd which is nice, a medal, some water and a none alcoholic beer for your efforts. The indoor changing rooms can be used (and have hot showers) which is nice afterwards. We may have hung around a bit longer had their been more food options but opted for a nice local pub instead. This is a good event but there are a few things which could make it a lot better and they need to sort out who they are using for photography. I'm not sure i'd do the 1h30 drive to do this event again but it's worth a crack for anyone close by and looking for an early season low pressure friendly event.
  • Did the event in 2016

I've raced at Dorney a few times, it's a good course if you like it flat and on closed roads. It's ideal for beginners as there are no issues with traffic, well only other triathletes! This race was a worlds qualifier and drafting which made me nervous on this course. In actual fact the waves were set far enough apart that there wasn't any real issue with the male packs coming past.

I chose this one as my first tri. Marshalls and volunteers were all very kind and willing to provide the vital transition information. Course beautiful but dont be fooled the first part of the ride is tough up hill, but so worth it once you are there. Run course was amended due to flodding of some parts of the route. Route around the playing field was fine, not a lot to see. Could have done with an extra water station on the run due to the hot weather. (28 degrees) Really enjoyed this race. If not scared of a hill on the bike :) a perfect first tri course.

Tonbridge Triathlon is set in the wonderful grounds & Sports Complex at the posh school! Swim in the pool was a little disorganised as although you were given start times, it was running about 20 mins behind. So you did end up a bit in a jumble with different speeds. Top tip leave a pair of trainers at the exit it's a bit of a run to transition! Transition Navigation was great marshells eveywhere and on  exit out to main road using STOP n GO to flow traffic! Bike loop is hilly! First 6-8 miles is climbing! Then about 16 miles there is a hideous decent, as we had torrential rain it was  tricky. Even being cautious on my second loop ( standard) I can a cropper! :( My first tumble on a bike to! The Marshells were absolutely brilliant! Especially Dom who took care of me & sat me in his car until help arrived! The First Aiders and BTF were so helpful. I DNF Didn't  get the medal or goody bag! But I'm still smiling no broken bones & I will be back to other Triathlons soon! Fantastic organised event shame about the rain!

It was my first go at this event and I chose it as I'm quite strong on hilly bike courses and this race sure has the hills sorted! There's a very steep descent which could be pretty dangerous but they had a road closure for upcoming cars and plenty of people there saying 'Sloooow!'

It was a boiling hot day. The water was great ... wish I'd done one with a longer swim! Cycle course was fantastic. What a great track to go round, but missed the variety of longer courses. The run was grueling. Hot hot sun and no shade or variety. There was a sprinkler but it was turned off mysteriously on return leg of the run.

Human race always organise races well.efficient and easy to register online and on the day registration.fantastic venue, the course couldn't be simpler. Amazing atmosphere with families out, great spots to see athletes and cool stands. Erdinger always goes down a treat.

This is the second time I've completed Bananaman in the team time trial event, and I absolutely love it. Great value for money, easy to navigate and lovely atmosphere. The only criticism this year is lack of things to do for young kids, last year there was a bouncy castle, this year there wasn't anything for them. There was a kids scootathon which I will enter my boy in to next year. The swim is a bit of a fight at the start, but there is plenty of room to move to the side away from the action. The bike can get a bit boring with 6 laps, but it's pancake flat, and as a team it's great. The run is also not the most inspiring route, but it's flat and here you go up and down with all the spectators to your side.Aid stations were very limited with water and sis drink in cups only on the run.The best bit is LIDL provide a BBQ which  everyone, whether racing or not, can get involved for free. A lovely day and great value for money. I would have got more involved if more to do with the kids, last year people stayed around longer after their event, I think thy didn't this year owing to the lack of entertainment. I loved it though and will be back.https://pickupthepacepaul.wordpress.com/2017/07/08/bananaman-2017

I did the half distance and actually enjoyed it, cold swim, but well marked course, the bike is closed roads but multiple laps, and after about 7 laps I had had enough and was preempting every turn or slight incline (the course is pretty flat) the run felt a bit lonely with competitors quite spread out, but overall a good race to evaluate yourself and your performance rather than to attend for atmosphere

  • Did the event in 2018

It was not an easy day to run this event, as it had been pouring down with rain the previous day as well as during the race. We had to pick up our race pack there and I was one of a few people, where they struggled to find our details despite being told to bring our registration email with us. There was no bag drop area, which isn't ideal when you want a spare change of clothes after running in the rain. All the 5k and 10k runners were trying to cram into the registration tent to stay dry so it's something for the organisers to consider should next year's event be during a wet day again. The course was mainly on grass and mud with some concrete paths. Signposting could have been a lot better (lack of km markers and one poor runner ahead of me headed in the wrong direction near the finish point) and myself and another runner felt the course ran short when we came back for the second lap. My suspicions were confirmed when my Garmin regsitered the run short of 10K. Some of these issues could have been eased with a few more marshals but understandably it wasn't a pleasant day to stand around for long. I had to pick up my race tshirt before hand and because I couldn't bring a bag ended up wearing it and it getting soaking wet. The medal was ok nothing wow unfortunately.
  • Did the event in 2016

Today was the 3rd time I've taken part in a Hercules Festival of Sport. Although the races are relatively cheap, I can't help but feel that the organisers are rather unorganised. The poor lady at the swim start was trying to call out people's numbers but no one could hear her as there was so much talking going on. The lady who was poolside and starting off the swimmers told me to start before I had even got in to the pool too. I did like the fact that they started the faster swimmers off first, as I've done others where the slower swimmers go first, which holds up the faster people. The run to transition is a little uncomfortable as you have to run on a stoney path with no shoes on. The run is nice. A little tough in places but no one ever said that multi-sport events were supposed to be easy! Whilst I appreciate the marshals giving up their Sunday morning to be there, most of them are kids are seem really disinterested. After we finished we had to wait for nearly 3hrs for the prize giving. I understand that results need to be checked as it's a staggered swim start, but 3hrs is a little excessive! A number prize winners had already left by the time their names were called. The same thing happened in 2015.Anyway - can't complain too much, as I said the races aren't expensive at all. I just missed out on 3rd place in the sprint aquathlon in 2015 but managed to bag it this year.  I'll be back in 2017 for 2nd (or maybe 1st!).I'm on the left in the pic with my partner, Del who came 2nd.
  • Did the event in 2016

Third year I have done Hercules Events whilst I achieve well in them and enjoy the actual events they do look disorganised. The events are great for new athletes and are a good entry to the world of multi sport. We rocked up and got our race packs with ease. We was all given our numbers and headed to race briefing at the pool side. A poor volunteer had the job to get everyone in order for the swim but she was fighting a loosing battle as she was too quiet and there was a 200 odd people to get ready who mostly where yapping and not paying attention.  It took them 15 mins to get the microphone sorted out and we was running late. Once she got in the swing of it we was all in order and the race started. Quickest off first which meant there was little bottle necking. The run from the pool is long and on a stoney path which hurt.  The 5k run is set in the lovely park and is quite tough. I have two gripes firstly my chip time was nearly 30 seconds out from my watch so my results show a slower time and secondly having come 2nd I was due a trophy which having finished at 745am we had to wait until 11am for the prize giving. Too long! Most of the podium winners for the races had left and poor mayor was waiting around for very few people. Need to break this part up for people. Other than that it's a great event for the family to get involved in from kids to adults.  Reading  my last review...exactly the same!!

Lovely course, great atmosphere and feels really busy. Great post race experience/village as well...
  • Did the Olympic in 2015

This was my first ever triathlon, and it was such a good one to do! The swim is good for people who are bad at sighting (like me), because you always stay around the edge of the lake, and pass through some narrow areas which help you swim in a straight line. The cycle route is a bit rolling and really beautiful, and the run is green and nice.
  • Did the event in 2018

Glad to actually finish this year, as bike broke down last year, but a few comments - why not help to avoid congestion at registration point by allowing participants to pay in advance for insurance online, absence of "goodies" this year, poor show considering how many sponsors, better signs for bike racks this year, didn't know about "no bag" rule by bike, until we arrived, signage from bike rack to swimming area (there were none), cycle route for short route should have had more signs, please review, apparently no photos of me throughout route despite wearing number (disappointing). Maybe will return in 2020.

Not one for a complete novice, but ideal for me as I began to put myself up against the competition, pushing me on to my all time PB!

The human race organised Windsor triathlon was run with super efficiency and precision. It had to be as there were so many competitors, there wasn’t  room for error. The bike route was great to ride, fast and plenty of straights to safely up the speed on. Well marshalled and signed. It just got too busy with the vast amount of entries. The run was too busy, the long walk section became crowded but good crowd support in Windsor town. Overall I had a good race, but far too expensive for a standard distance triathlon.

Windsor is a beautiful place to race; the swim is great (surprisingly warm and clear with a helpful current, the ride is pretty flat and quite beautiful in parts and the run is challenging with some steep hills but location is incredible as is the support lining the track. All of the above should lead to this being a 5* rating but alas not as the overall organisation was really not what you would have expected for such an established race.Firstly my race pack never arrived so I had to get there extra early to pick up in time (not ideal with a 6:50am wave start). There wasn't really anywhere to safely leave a bag, nowhere near enough toilets and nowhere to change (before or after the race)The swim is great (very easy and well marked) and transition to the bike is pretty smooth. Bike course not  nearly as well marked and marshalled as it could have been; I had several people ride alongside me for directions and got lost myself at one point as a critical junction was un marshalled at the time with only a tiny sign (resulted in quite a bit of time wasted). The roads are decent condition and you can keep a pretty good average speed up but they are open to traffic and if in a later wave can get a little busy - you will get stuck behind the odd truck at points.Transition to run again smooth and the run is a joy (even if it is a lapped route) as you have the Castle, the park and great crowds to keep you going; you will need it as have to do some serious uphill work. Only downside to the run were the water stations; the crew were lovely but the water was in plastic cups which are pretty impossible to drink from without breaking pace.Windsor is a good place to get a PB if you don't get lost or stuck behind a tractor and it is well worth doing but go prepared; know the route, don't rely on the marshalls and remember to take your own loo roll!Enjoy

This is a great race, it's nice a flat with decent roads and even though it's not closed roads they are wide so the traffic is not really a hinderance. The lake is lovely and clear and the run is around the lake which is nice and scenic.  The marshalls are great, fantastic home made cake (most important!) after the finish line. There are so many 'big business' events around the south east like London Tri and the Eton Dorney races.  This is a well organised, low key, personal event and defo pb terrority with a great mix of tt bikes and commuter bikes alike.  I racked my bike next to a full carbon with expensive zipp wheels and a commuter with mudguards.  This is what tri is all about - insclusivity and tri community.Well done Ocean Lake Tri...

l have done many Tri's over the years and this is one of the best run I've come across. The registration, route, and staff all make this a very pleasant experience. Then to top it all there's cake at the end! Great venue and event, throughly recommend it

1:The day was great however having to go and pick your pack up the day before was a pain......2:The biggest thing for me was the colour of the buoys in the water, they should of been yellow, red, or orange and not blue/purple as they were very hard to see while you are swimming!!!3:The water stations were very close together which didn't make much sense cold of done with one more water station.

I had to make a extra trip to Marlow to pick up my race number. It could have been sent in the post and it seems it was possible to pick it up on the day. It was an hour round trip.
  • Did the Sprint in 2018

Good race, well marked. People were drafting though and marshals didn't know the rules so cheating was going on but overall was good.

I thought the race information on the website was a bit 'light' on content, no maps etc. Race results website is pretty bad; I never seen this "dead zone" stuff - these need to be cleaned up. Where are the results for each 5 year age group that can be sorted by Swim, T1 etc?

Done it 3 times now. A good local event.

As a local resident, I love this triathlon for it ease of access.  It would be nice to have closed roads - although it starts early enough that it isn't a big issue.  The trail running is very uneven in places.  The Marshalls are excellent though and always very friendly.

Great event. For a first time triathlon
  • Did the event in 2016

This was a really nice race, very local. It doesn't compete with the big races for numbers and that has a knock on with some of the organisation. But that isn't a problem. It's still a really great local race.

My son's done this race several times and this year I decided to make it the first triathlon we have done together... although as a newcomer and not-super, but definitely a veteran, I went for the shorter course. Loved it! Nice swim. A few slopes on the bike - including one that appeared to go on for ages - and a run that was up a few hills but the bonus was you come back down them! Marshalls that were not only helpful but also had a sense of humour - plus plenty of banter and friendly encouragement from other athletes. Just one water station - no big deal on a short race - but a few goodies at the end, plus a quality event tech shirt. I definitely want another go!
